Great thread Annie, i have way too many reasons why i am vaping, Dad died of throat cancer, grandad of brest cancer, both smokers all their lives, but that didnt motivate me back then, i think what motivated me was 7.89 a pack of silk sluts, my 3 month old daughter and just the fact i really disliked smoking. I mean having to wash my hands and try not to breathe all over my daughter was the real tipping point above everything else, being now that i am 40 it was time to really make a decision. luckily i found ECF, thanks to Chrissie found the best forum ever AAEC and that's it really

To give up smoking, stay off from products that contain tobacco, like nasal snuff etc...but didn't want to give up vitamin N. And knowing the fact that just by smelling me after I smoked people would inhale the nasties.

I stopped smoking in August using patches. It worked for me but I knew that when I came off the patches I'd start smoking again at some point, as had happened some 2 years previous. Sure enough, we went on holiday in October and within a couple of days I was puffing away on the OH's fags. It was near the end of the holiday that I saw a rechargeable e-cig (lookalike) in a market stall for 10 euros. Thought I'd give it a try and I was amazed at how well it worked. I haven't had an analogue since that day

I'd tried to give up using patches, inhalators, going cold turkey, chewing gum (yeuch) and failed. I have various health problems, and what smoking was doing to me was brought home when I developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in my foot following a minor op. My recovery time for that op was a lot longer than it should have been to. It didn't stop me smoking though . Mr Fan and I got Chloe, our dog, and made the muttering noises about stopping for her sake. It still didn't happen. About two months ago, we decided that we'd had enough of our neighbours on the one side of us, and that we wanted to move. Mr Fan started to redecorate and still we smoked. The I saw the e-lites advertised in a TV mag, sent off for them and enjoyed them! I had a couple of stinkies as I still had a packet to use up and boy, did they taste bad. And the rest, as they say, is history, we've not looked back and I never thought I'd stop smoking. Since getting the Riva I haven't had a stinky, and I'm not missing them.

I was in hospital (had an achillies op that went wrong) but in my ward was a group of men all had legs off & they would trundle out the ward in their wheelchairs at various times of the day ??? I got talking to one of them & i found out they all had to have amputations due to...smoking! & the wheelchair congo that went on in & out the ward all day was them going for a smoke!!!! Well i made my mind up there & then that i wasn't going to smoke another cig again Then the following week i was diagnosed with diabetes & i also have a heart problem so that was the final nail in the coffin! & i am happy to say i have never smoked since #icon_thumbsup# I have since converted 2 friends to vaping & they too are still off the nasties #icon_bravo#

I switched because I need surgery and they won't let me have it done if I smoke.

I've gone through this thread and I can honestly say that all I had going through my mind while reading everyones storys was "Only if I read this 26 yrs ago before I took up smoking) everyones storys in this thread is a very good example for the young teenagers who try or want to start smoking, it clearly shows what terrible side affects it has once your addicted and the health issues which come with it many years down the line! This thread should be posted every possible, so it can reach the young! Brilliant Anne, I really enjoyed reading everyones storys

The only problem is that a young teenager will still believe that it won't happen to them, besides 50 is aaaaaaaaaaages away

I had been quite smoking for about 3 months before I started vaping. I had tried to quit a couple of times before & was always miserable. First time I quit it was purely because I just couldn't afford to smoke. Later down the track I started smoking again. However, my other half always hated it & made me feel as uncomfortable as he possibly could. So, I agreed to quit smoking again. Really loved smoking & I felt really hard done to. Anyway, I came across this forum and have never looked back. I can vape to my hearts content with no one bullying me anymore.

I had actually quit smoking, went to the GP and got nicotine gum etc. But I was really struggling, I was constantly hungry and knew i was just putting on weight. Also workwise I was less able to concentrate.
Then one day my brothers friend had an e cig that he gave me a drag on. It was so satisfying so i bought one same as his. I actually went on to lose two stone in weight after that. Its been two years now and I dont feel the need to quit nicotine, because from what I have read, it is not the stuff in tobacco that causes the health problems anyway. Also moneywise i can afford to vape, i couldnt afford to smoke as much as i wanted.

I was constantly being nagged at by my family to give up but I didn't want to. I used patches and stopped a few times. But i felt like the kids chasing after the bisto gravy smell on the old tv ads. I would all but sniff people. I had smoked since being a young teen. I was smoking about 40 a day. Someone at work told me about ecigs but I didn't take much notice I didn't want to stop as i loved smoking and I loved the social aspect of it. Oneday I was out shopping with my mum and there was this guy selling look a likes so I tried it and liked it. It was the intelligent cigarette. I ordered some more carts for it at the same time as I started to read up on forums. I stopped the cigarettes and then went onto the sd keyring then a couple of ego batteries then a mini lavatube and now ego twists. I have no desire at all to smoke again. I can't stand the smell. I enjoy vaping much more. And it's coming upto 6 months for me now which is the longest I've ever stopped for. The times I would've been weak would be in times of stress as it was my emotional crutch but it hasn't happened I just heavy vape instead. Last time I saw my gp he actually put me on the system as an ex smoker and told me to keep up the good work. I actually work in occupational health with doctors and nurses and they have no problem with letting me vape away at work infact they often comment on how they like the smell and there always asking what flavour I've got. They do find it amusing my wearing an ego twist with a viva nova on a lanyard. Forgot to mention I also have the gripper mod!

Over the past couple of years I've tried several times to quit. I've tried patches, gum, the Nicorette Inhalator, and nothing worked. The thing is, I need to quit because I need surgery, and they won't let me while I'm still smoking. Vaping is the only thing that's worked for me. I still need to cut my nicotine down to 0mg by Christmas but I'm fairly confident I can do that.
