Hi guys
So my Riva came today....and everything tastes...well...plasticy
Also, put LF's vanilla in first and found that really sweet (and plasticy) so changed cartridge and put L&B in and that tastes...well sweet like the vanilla and plasticy....
Have blown the atty out....I think.....wasn't quite sure which way to blow
Can someone please help a stuck newbie???

The atomiser's do come with a priming fluid which takes a few fires to burn off Always, so that could account for the funny intial taste you're getting.
It takes a little time to get your taste buds 'tuned in' to ejuice so stick with it.

I blow the new atties out until all the primer fluid pretty much disappears. Then I dry burn for a few seconds > then drip a couple of drops on the attie & puff on it as if I was lighting a pipe. That usually sorts the problem out
There is an agree to disagree about which way to blow out atties. I blow through the end which the cart fits into & the primer or juice drips out of the battery connection end. Other folk prefer to do it the other way round.
You need to make sure your cart/foam is wet & the foam isn't poking to far out of the top of the cart. It ideally wants to be tucked just below the rim of the cart. I take the foam out and drip about 6 drops in > replace foam & drop a few more drops onto the foam. Becareful not to over fill as you'll flood the atty & you will get a mouthful of juice.
The plasticy taste is probably a combination of foam too dry and foam slightly touching the wick at the bottom of the atty.
Hope that helps.

Thanks guys - I blew both ends of the atty and no primer fluid came out...
I put 10 drops in the bottom of cart, then replaced filler and added another 2 or 3 drops...tried doing less and there was no vape...I did put a paper towel over the top to see if any juice was on it and therefore I'd over filled it, but it seemed ok.
Have just put James' cherry in and that does taste a little better....had a whiff of the atty and all I could smell was the LF vanilla (which to be honest, was not good!!)
On the plus side...I'm now getting loads and loads of vape and haven't had a cig since 5:30pm....4 1/2 hours without a fag is an absolute record for me!! I don't feel the need for one either...so I'm really hoping I can get the teething troubles sorted...big test for me will be first thing in the morning!

One thing to watch out for, if the Riva is the same as the tornado, is a problem I sometimes get with the carts melting - if that happens you will know as its really nasty !!
Below is what I posted a while back:
"Well I think I may have found the cause of the burning plastic taste.... it's plastic burning.... !
The end of the tornado carts have 2 flats, giving a sort of oval shape rather than round. Also looking into the atomiser, the element is a rectangle shape, in plan view.
So unless the cart is correctly aligned, the flat part of the plastic can touch the atomiser. The most recent cart I have been using has definitely melted very slightly in a couple of places (slight "dents" right on the end), and I know it was perfectly smooth before using.
I've found that if I align the wider part of the cart end with the wider part of the element, then I don't get the really bad burning plastic taste. Just got it once today, when I forgot to align it.
(I do get a slight plastic/bitter taste if the cart gets a bit dry, but from some of the posts above that's normal, and its nothing like as bad as before."
If its just a slight burnt plastic taste without a nasty burning throat, then as others have said its probably just a dry cart - I find with standard carts you really need to top up with a couple of drops after just a few drags.

Keep at it Always & L15A - you're both doing really well, I don't think there was any of us that didn't have funny moments with getting to grips with vaping at first . . . . after a few days it all comes together.
The first morning I didn't crave a cig the moment I woke up was like being liberated!

Always & Li5A, it sounds like you are both doing so well Always, I hope Stan's suggestion of aligning the carts stops you getting the plasticy taste. I'm not really able to help much with Riva/510 issues as I've always preferred 910 atties.

No offence, but I wouldn't really suggest a juice like vanilla if your just starting out. I think you would've been better off going for one of James' tobacco juices which arn't as sickly sweet, or even his grape. Depending on whether your juice is pg or vg, you could always "water" it down with flavourless pg or vg juice. This will dilute the taste however it will also dilute nicotine content too. I think vg can be bought in Boots or supermarket. The others can confirm this

The others can confirm this Hissie is right, flavours like vanilla or cinnamon unless you really love them can cling to your atty and it can take maybe 3 days before you get rid of the taste and no amount of washing out will get rid of it.
