im using my first of the 2 cheap tecc SDs i bought (not the one with a bent spring). tonight the housing was getting a bit warmer than it should. im using the 510 adapter supplied by tecc on an eastmall 510 atty (now 8 days or so old and weakening). i look into the housing and the atty spring had collapsed, i stretched back out and went again same thing happened. i pulled the spring again and it came off the board, so its now knackered.
why would this happen, could it be the atty was dying and the power went back up the through the board a cooked the spring, could the attys be the problem or was it a dodgy spring. ive never heard or read this problem before. i will wait for profs and you guys opinions then see if trog has any advise. i will say i never over pressure the button and it has never been fired up in my pocket etc etc. raggy.............

well, i know the spring is supposed to act as a fuse in the event of a short, Raggy, so i'd leave well alone till you hear back from Prof or Trog...especially when you say the body was getting warm...

A couple of times when my body's got warm ( ??? ) it's been a battery overheating But if your spring has broken, I don't think it can be that. I think that Trog will repair the nose-ends at a reasonable cost, he did when my buttons broke off. I hope you've got spares, Raggy. scylla

It sounds to me like there is an electrical short in the adapter. This will cause a short in the SD and hence the spring will collapse - as it is supposed for safety. So you could say the SD has worked perfectly - I'd get a new adapter and get trog to repair the SD. I've found adapters from Toby, Abe and Lisa to all be of good quality...

It could be that the atty itself shorted of course - that can happen (not common). I'd be tempted to replace the adapter just to be sure (unless you know someone clever enough to test it?)
