Lefty, many thanks for sharing just one of your 'days from hell' with us. It makes perfect sense that actually writing about it all like that would make you feel better about it. It's grand to vent when you need to (and you know it isn't going to upset or hurt anyone else) but even more so because you know it will make other people smile.
We have a treasured mate who writes several pages of Christmas newsletter in a very similar vein (and style) every year without fail, and truthfully it is one of the few things I look forward to in December. I have a whole collection of them as I've kept every single one he's ever sent and have been know to fish them out and have a read when I really, really need to remind myself that laughter is both free and essential!!
I do wish though that fewer of the great British public were such utter plebs as hordes of 'em seem to be...

I refer to my better half as 'my worst advert' because he half-and-halfs, vapes half the time and smokes half the time. He's done that ever since we got our first e-cigs back in 2008 and for about the first year I was convinced that it was just a matter of finding a flavour that he really loved.
It wasn't, he now has a range of flavours which he adores but continues to half smoke, half vape. I don't criticise or nag 'cos at the end of the day it still means he is only smoking half as many as he used to, which is never going to be a bad thing - although I don't conceal the fact that I'd be over the moon if he were to bang the smellies on the head.
When customers drop round to collect vaping supplies (which happens fairly often) it is far from unusual to get twitching noses and peering around then comments about the fact they can see ashtrays! I just have to explain the situation and hope it changes one day. At least if they are newbies I have the chance to point out that I won't ever tick them off or anything if they come back to the stall and say they still have a couple of fags every now and again - or even every day; they are adults and vaping is a matter of choice. It is most certainly not my place to tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't be doing.
My mother smoked heavily all her life - which is very likely what caused it to end far too early despite beating off cancer three times and surviving for 13 years beyond her first diagnosis. My sister on the other hand never smoked and has always been very anti, which kind of puts the mockers on this notion that children will always blindly copy what their elders do. Patently, this is simply not the case.

Relieved to hear you finally succeeded in attaching the cap lanyard, Karma - shame about the nails, though. I do agree it is a b*gger of a job but well worth it as now you won't be wondering where the cap is every time you want to use it!
I heard a faint bell in my memory when you mentioned about not being able to get an Echomiser to work so fished out both of my SDs and had a try, attached a 901 - 510 adapter then a 510 - eGo on top of it, added Echo carto and neither of them do a thing. I don't think I ever solved this one, either. As far as I know there is no such thing as a 901 - eGo adapter as a single unit, unfortunately. If there is, I've never come across one.
In the end I just settled for using the VGO cartomisers with the SDs (the VGOs have 901 threading) but even then you do still need a 901 - 808 adapter. The threads are lower than the Echomiser but you couldn't attach it to an SD without the adapter because of the shape.

I need needles with a slanty hole (for filling DCCs down the side), not the flat hole as in Batty's link. I couldn't find any on eBay, thought they must have banned them. Scylla, I sell these - they're a bit longer than the eBay ones, 40mm which is just over an inch and a half, 18 gauge with a bevel (slant) but still blunt so much safer to use than sharp ones from the vets. They come with a red cover on them. I normally sell them along with a small syringe (they call them 2ml but they are graduated up to 2.5ml) as a 'Carto Filling Kit' for a pound. They both come in individual sealed sterile packs. They ought to fit OK to get posted as a 'large envelope' so I could send a couple of each to you for £3 if you wanted unless you have decided to accept Batty's kind offer. Drop me a PM if this is any use to you. By the way, I believe you are correct - dear old nanny eBay has banned the sale of needles (even blunt ones!) though as Batty discovered a few sellers are still doing them as refillers for ink cartridges; I think they're just careful not to use the word "needle"!

As far as the excellent ECCA article goes (link works fine for me, no freezing or anything else untoward) I have been wondering whether those chaps over at Intellicig have in fact done us a favour for once. It IS known that Intellicig did some research (done with a view to getting their Marketing Authorisation?) which involved blood work on test subjects to investigate how much nicotine was reaching the blood for e-cig users - and how quickly this happened. They unhelpfully (but understandably) redacted the actual levels when they announced that their research did prove conclusively that using an e-cig DOES result in blood plasma levels of nicotine increasing (as we all knew) in a similar fashion to smoking a cigarette, and nothing like as slowly as it arrives from a patch. Finally found the link: www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/media-general-news/105733-intellicig-will-reveal-results-major-research-project-tomorrow.html#post1597052 - this was almost 2 years ago! Quite recently, they announced changes to the nicotine strengths in Intellicig cartridges and started labelling them by 'mg per cartridge' rather than mg per ml. www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/intellicig/276924-changes-our-refill-stengths.html . Their stated reason for doing this seems to be in order to stop users puffing away constantly on their Intellicigs and makes reference to 'recent published research', but didn't actually say WHERE this was supposed to have been published - AND totally ignored a polite request to provide this information in the announcement thread. Despite their apparent coyness about admitting this, this does mean that they are indeed now selling cartridges (in UK) and also ECOpure liquid in 45mg/ml strength - that is exactly what 4.5% means. It also implies that the capacity of each 'capsule' as they call them (cartridges to everyone else) must be 1/3 of a ml, not the 0.4ml David Newns told Hifi they were in his interview. John Chamley aka Shining Wit on ECF (formerly of Intellicig but now running FlavourArt UK) is rather more upfront about this on his FAUK website, where he also sells Intellicig products. His description of the 'new' strengths and the reason for this is here: www.flavourart.co.uk/refill-capsules-70-p.asp where he also mentions 'research has indicated...' but says nothing about this having been published research. (The Intellicig website still claims 'Recent published research' www.intellicig.com/2012/03/new-ecopure-strengths-to-be-introduced-from-the-14th-march-2012/ , by the way) Personally, I don't think that it's beyond the realms of possibility that the two things (ie blood plasma nicotine level research and change to ECOpure strengths) are related. They are still claiming cigarette equivalence of 6 cigarettes for each 1/3ml Intellicig cartridge. Do they have reasons for claiming this which they aren't being entirely forthcoming about? Possibly, come the day when Advertising Standards finally appear and stamp all over the claims being made about 0.7ml cartomisers being equivalent to 40 cigarettes each (and why the heck haven't they done this already??) Intellicig will simply brandish their own research (likely still unpublished, due to 'commercial sensitivity') and then carry right on saying their cartridges are equivalent to 6 cigarettes each... ...I am left wondering about Intellicig's disposable model, though - this still claims to be 35 cigs-worth (at 350 puffs) but doesn't appear to have either a liquid capacity or nicotine strength quoted. Wonder if they've overlooked that? They do seem to have reduced it's price...

There's a point. If you're going to have surgery, you're told, if you smoke, to give it up. (Just like that ) Why is this? If it's because of nicotine, then we're no better off in that respect. Don't quote me on this as I could be wrong, but I imagine that having carbon monoxide in your bloodstream might well affect your requirements for oxygen support and so forth as it does affect the body's ability to absorb and transport oxygen. Vapers (of course) do not have CO in their blood because they are no longer inhaling any combustion products. I've had two customers who have been into hospital for procedures under general anaesthetic and in both cases I advised them to make sure their anaesthetist was aware that they were using an electronic cigarette. I'm pleased to say that both times they came back and told me that the anaesthetists were absolutely unworried by it, and (almost best of all) neither of them said "Electronic cigarette? What's that then?" which I found rather reassuring. I would still recommend that anyone here does make sure that the medics are aware that you are vaping as nicotine DOES have some effects on the body. You are always asked about any medication you may be taking prior to any operation and that would be the time to mention it. After I'd explained what e-cigs were and how they worked to my GP (who DID say say "Electronic cigarette? What's that then?"!) he changed my records (unasked) to show me as a non-smoker probably over 2 years ago, which I must admit suprised me. I was totally open about the fact that I was still using nicotine and had every intention of continuing to do so. He couldn't care less, as long as I don't smoke tobacco.

You enjoyed that one I see... It was brilliant wasn't it! Full of solid facts and common sense..A really thorough study. I hope that Doctor gets the message across loud and clear to the European medical council.. Seconded. It was great! I was aware of most of the older studies he referred to but one of the most impressive things about his presentation was his synthesis of all these (without disparaging even the cr*p ones) to support his case. That was pure genius.

Well you shouldn't be - you're a really 'valuable' member with your willingness to help people out and some of the stuff you find and post links to! You would have been missed very badly if you'd not returned.
(I have completely forgiven you for pinching most of my Sunday morning with the link to the cardiologist interview, by the way)

Yay! Macca's back! Ever so pleased to see you return, was quite crestfallen when I realised you must have deleted your membership after you disappeared from the roll-call. We all have our bad days and I'm relieved to hear the toys are still with you, but quite agree you want to keep a handbag handy for when needed.
There ARE occasions when a handbagging IS required and it's much better for being done properly. (Not trying to stir it, water is definitely best under the bridge)

Yes, it can go off but you should be looking at more like two years - definitely not a month! I really don't like the sound of an ammonia-like smell, suggest you get in touch as ask Moju for advice. This definitely isn't something I've come across myself or think you would expect from a liquid you've only had for as long as that.

One thing which might be worth trying (particularly if you don't happen to have denture tablets handy) is soaking your Stardust in a solution of bicarbonate of soda and hot water for half an hour or so then rinse thoroughly and try it again. Bicarb is a natural deodouriser and I always use some when I'm washing up e-liquid bottles for re-use as it certainly seems to help to shift strong flavours which are keen to 'hang on in there'.
Des is right though, it is best to use each Stardust or carto for a separate flavour if you can as some flavours are almost impossible to shift once they've settled down in there. Menthol, for instance will remain detectable almost forever!

Out of curiosity Daz, what kind of kit were you using?
I've heard a couple of murmurs about pubs down my way doing much the same thing - having a "no e-cigs" policy - but I'd gathered this was due to confusion created when people used cig-a-likes. From some points of view, you can kind of understand it - if the pub's busy and it leads to someone else lighting up a stinky way over on the other side of the room it must be a nightmare from the bar staff's situation behind the bar.
It's definitely a point in favour of having an e-cig which most decidedly does NOT resemble a cigarette when you go out!
Good suggestion from OneDay, but if it really is the brewery's policy and the landlord is actually just a manager he'd be jeopardising his job if he let you vape in there. I'm guessing that Gaz probably wouldn't have had a chance to make out a date on that email - it is even possible this is an "Edict From On High" that's arrived between the previous time he was there and yesterday?

Wow. (I badly need a little smiley here who is having his socks blown off!!)
A bit longish, he says! You certainly weren't kidding there - but I don't want to put people off having a look, just recommend they get comfy and arm themselves with a cuppa before clicking the link. (I would just say that I'm really glad I watched this ahead of our imminent transfer to BT as broadband provider with a per-month usage limit which is now beginning to worry me a bit...)
I actually took a load of notes down while watching this as it is simply crammed with really good, solid information which the gentleman concerned has drawn together along with his OWN study data. It's absolutely riveting stuff if you are interested, which I am. Overall it is simply GREAT news for everyone who has swapped over to vaping.
I really can't spare the time today to transcribe all my notes and give a detailed description of everything that is included in this interview here, but I've got to say that if even a fraction of the people who will be seeing this guy's presentation at the huge Cardiology Congress he mentioned (in August) take what he has to say on board this can only be good news for vapers.
In brief: This is a show called (I think) VPLive done by an outfit who call themselves Vape Team. The cardiologist mentioned in the thread title is one Konstantinos Farsalinos MD, of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre in Greece.
He has conducted a study examining the cardio-vascular effects of vaping versus smoking, using experienced vapers. His results have been so positive that from being a smoker at the start of the study he made the change to vaping himself after examining the results from the first 15 subjects.
He will be presenting his findings and conclusions at a large medical conference in August. The European Heart Journal will publish this (in abstract) following this event and he also expects to publish his study and data in full at some point in the future, though from what he said this is a process which could be quite a few months away.
The show itself is in effect a very detailed preview of his presentation. He did come out with a fairly snappy (and quotable) one-liner which summarises his view of e-cigs rather nicely - "Banning electronic cigarettes would be an ethical crime".
He takes this view as he acknowledges that taking e-cigs away from people who have now been vaping for several years would condemn them to returning to tobacco use - the worst possible outcome.
I'm not sure how you find all this stuff, Macca - you must be spending far more time in front of a pc than is good for you; but THANKYOU. This has brightened up my Sunday no end!

We're getting right to the very heart of the issue I have with vendors behaving like this now - this can and apparently IS putting people off even giving them a try. There's no doubt at all in my mind that different kit suits different folk, but if the great British public gets the idea in their head that "all e-cigs are rubbish" this will prevent many from considering them as an alternative to continuing to smoke and therefore in my view, ultimately cost lives.
It's also a big part of the problem I have with the truly awesomely misleading and inaccurate reporting some newspapers have engaged in whenever they've written about e-cigs, because regrettably people do believe what they see in newspapers and hear on TV and radio, but that's a topic for another thread altogether!!
In some ways this thread is just getting better and better but I am really deeply saddened to be learning that it appears the entire founding principle and business plan behind e-Lites involves ripping people off to the maximum extent they can, and has done for even longer than I had realised.

On Chrissie's recommendation I am adding myself to this list - feels a bit peculiar doing this, I must admit. I'm not the world's most natural salesperson as I never sold anything in my life prior to starting with e-cigs and don't believe in fibbing, misleading or exaggerating in order to make a sale. I have been vaping myself since late 2008 and selling e-cigs since June 2009, and while I feel a bit odd about calling myself an expert I reckon my vaping knowledge is pretty good and I do try to keep up to date with developments.
I have a stall at Heathfield Market (East Sussex) every Tuesday morning and would be delighted to meet any fellow AAEC members in the area who care to come along. I trade under the name 'Vapersoutheast'. My stock is pretty varied despite being a very small trader and does include some very useful accessories such as soft tank caps and various adapters. Customers can try out most of my more popular flavours on working kit before they buy - all mouthpieces thoroughly cleaned first, of course! As I compound quite a number of my liquids myself I can usually provide any preferred strength to order although the stall stock is primarily 18mg. I very rarely miss a week but am famous for arriving late - sometimes VERY late!!
I totally believe that e-cigs are the very best alternative currently available to burning tobacco leaves and will always do my best to try and ensure each newcomer to vaping goes away with the most suitable kit I can provide based on what they tell me about themselves, their smoking and their lifestyle. There's little point in sending a 40-a-day chap who is a forestry worker off with batteries that won't last him till lunchtime. An eGo passthrough battery he can charge up in his truck (and still use) while he eats his lunch will be much more useful, along with a USB car adapter which is up to the job - not all of them are!
I try to spend as much time as I can with each new customer and am always happy to explain how things work (to the limit of my own understanding!) along with exactly what goes into e-liquids (particularly my own exclusive ones, for obvious reasons) and demonstrate how to refill etc. I always carry a multimeter on the stall so I can check whether any misbehaving equipment is genuinely dead or simply having a contact problem before offering a replacement - and adjust it if possible. I also willingly share any techniques I am aware of for cleaning and extending the functional life of any item. (I'll never be rich!)
Come and say Hi if you are down this way!
(Chrissie, I think it's time to change my status to 'Offline seller' or something like that, will drop you a PM later)
