In truth, the only "unknown" is flavouring. What about wicks, mesh, etc? They're no different from the heater elements in commercial haze and fog machines - any real risk would come from a misbehaving control system that allowed the heat to build above the point at which acrolein was produced - but, again, in practice, the user would immediately notice the change in temperature and flavour and would, hopefully, cease usage until the problem was rectified. In terms of wicking material, standard FG, Silica and Mesh wicks are essentially inert - they act in two ways - one to deliver juice to the heating coil and the second as a former for the coil itself. In a rebuildable atomiser, it's a very easy task to examine the wick, no matter what it's made of, and any deterioration that the user is unhappy with can be rectified. In a non-rebuildable, again, the changes that occur over time are noticeable, and a pattern of usage that proves both palatable and effective for each individual user is quite soon established. There should be no adverse health consequences from inert materials used as wick - however, the same cannot be said of cotton or paper wicks, where a lack of juice can and will cause immediate and unfortunate consequences as the substrate chars and burns.

In truth, the only "unknown" is flavouring - and it's only "unknown" because there are so many flavours, so it's a practical impossibility to fully evaluate each one indiviidually.
In terms of PG/VG vaporisation, there have been studies conducted in the past which show not only no ill effects from quite concentrated levels, but some benefits (the anti-bacterial nature of PG), plus numerous risk assessments on vaporised PG and VG in the entertainment industry have shown no ill effects over a period in excess of 25 years from the regular inhalation of lesser concentrations - so that's covered, then.
For Nicotine, there are myriad studies on the inhalation of said substance and it is plentifully known about - again, not 100% safe, but then nothing is. Its risk profile is very low in the quantities we use.
If, therefore, anyone is in any doubt, the only unknown is flavouring. To that end, I have tried plain unflavoured VG with the required concentration of nicotine, and it's palatable - a little menthol won't hurt (already used in inhalation remedies, so no harm there) or some ethyl maltol (again, widely understood to be GRAS for inhalation) for a touch of sweetness (both formulations are already through the first phase of trials, by the way, for MHRA purposes) and you're gold.
Hope this helps.

You wouldn't get me back in the Rattler even if there were 17 Cheryl Cole clones dancing naked on the tables, and Chezza herself waiting to tend to my every need.
Unless she'd come down the Sundial, like.... Cos that's where I'll be!

Just so people know, Hifistud is actually a concatenation of High, Fidelity and Studios, the name of my old company. I went to register on one of the various recording and live sound forums, using the "HiFi Studios" moniker which everyone called the place, and discovered that, in its wisdom, the forum software didn't accept spaces and allowed only eight character usernames. So it shortedned it and didn't give me the option to change it. It kinda stuck after that.

Stacked unprotected batteries are the most risky way to go, especially with no-name batteries that could be any old garbage. I await more information on this, to see what the vendor in question will be doing - obviously, this is not something we'd be wanting to go viral.

Vapestick has been punting similar pieces about in various places - and good on 'em, I say - it all helps.

I've asked a fair few, and none have taken me up on it - it's a sad state of affairs that they seem to think they may have to acknowledge that their, ahem, mistaken beliefs may be challenged in a way thay can't argue against. But I'll keep on trying...

<<< Heavy smokers transferring to e-cigarettes tend to use 20-25mg initially, and then reduce a little. >>> Actually "heavy smokers" transferring to e-cigs can use anything between 30mg and 45mg and some of them will choose not to reduce their mg level in the future. We should be very careful about what we say to MPs and MEPs lest we dig a grave for ourselves and have them lay down rules that while may suit some, would be next to useless for others. I doubt very much if I would still be 100% vaping if I had to limit my top nic strength to 25mg. +1 In actuality, most folks don't reduce nic strength over time, and many increase.
