Thank you very much. I've just switched it down from 0.5 to 0.25! I was playing it down the middle, but I have used 1.0 about 3 to 5 times on each cell so far. Hope I have not made them too much worse for doing that. <shrug>

Hi all, my charged has 0.25, 0.5 and 1.00 amp charge rates. The cells are AW IMR 18650. I looked up the data and apparently and those can accept 4 amp fast charge maximum, so even at 1 amp it's not exactly going to be pushing things to extremes. However what is the best way for the battery chemistry? Take it slower if you got time? Or is the 1 amp just as good? I'd like to preserve the life of the batteries obviously, just wondering if any of this can help enough to be worth doing? I know some battery chemistry types don't like a deep discharge (these probably falling into that category I think), and others like a small use then a quick top up, others again appreciate a full cycle, but while still avoiding deeper discharges. I've only just gotten over fully figuring out NiMH and all it's foibles and I have not yet found out about these ones in the same way yet. Has anyone got some words of wisdom about charging rates for me please? ???

That's got to help a lot! Nice job. My only deviation is that I rolled up my sleeves and dug into the "nic combine" function and tweaked out my own version in there using data for the crystal54 and also for no nic VG - seems to have tamed it all now as it has a "transfer to main form" function. As long as you don't then manually specify a target mg level it knows what to do with it all! Very nice to use it like that too! You could endlessly mix it up in that section with 3 "bases" at once I've been hatching out a shopping list! One corner of my kitchen will look like a pharma lab soon! LOL I'll get a standby order in place, and then back on track and take a little more time and trouble over this shopping list I think, I need some time to plan it just right, time spent there might well pay off productively. The nic combine feature is really useful for diluting or strengthening juices - I would steer clear of it for the moment, as it seems that you are possibly over-complicating it for yourself by doing that. If you're using 54mg base nic, just type it in the box I labled before. Once you give it all the other parameters, it will tell you how much VG (from boots) and PG (from ebay) to add, to give you the specified strength and PG/VG ratio. I would not suggest mixing different strength bases to try and achieve a certain strength - - once you add flavours, it will put the strength and PG/VG ratio out of kilter
- It is easier to dilute using VG & PG according to what the software determines
- It is cheaper to dilute with PG or VG than with base nic of another strength.
Oh dear, I just saw the other thread about 28vapes. Looks like that will cause my plans to change quite a bit. Mixing may also become unaffordable after all. Damn. The initial outlay can be pretty hefty, but mixing your own juice will always be cheaper per ml than buying premade juice. I suppose the same as vaping in general. I will have been vaping for 4 months at the end of July, and then I will break even on what I would have spent on tobacco. HOWEVER, I have enough supplies to last me almost 3 years. Mrs fred was gobsmacked that I've spent £300 in 3 months, but when I explained to her about the supplies, and I won't be spending on tobacco each month, she's earmarked the savings for a new kitchen
So far it is just confusing me - I am apparently too thick to enter numbers which it does not interpret as negative ones, despite them not having been entered as negative as reality has it. Every time I try to even learn to use it it claims negative numbers no matter what I do. That does not look like going anywhere but I will keep trying. I guess it must be me. Surely it can't be defective software with so many saying they use it? I have seen one or two folk say it does this to them. I can't even try running the numbers by for that LT liquids stuff so far. I don't know what a lot of the answers might be here but the liquids come as being like 94.6% PG and say 5.4% Nic. I can't see a place to enter diluents at all so far. Right, I think you're misinterpreting the numbers from LTE. The 5.4% nic means it is 54mg/ml. As far as the calculator is concerned that particular juice is 100% PG and 54mg (just as in my pic). No dilutents needed for base nic. Negative quantities in the mix mean that you can't achieve that particular mix with the ingredients you have (I can try to explain that better if you need me to or maybe breaktru could explain better than me).
If you tell me what VG/PG ratio you want and if you are using VG or PG 54mg base, I can do you a screenshot of the easiest way to achieve your mix.
And, I'm not sure that deionised water for batteries is suitable. I think you may need distilled water? I don't use anything to dilute VG, but would use vodka if i needed to. Someone will clarify the deionised/distilled water thing.I can't seem to make quotes work correctly, so will have to reply here, one bit at a time I found the nic combine worked fine for me, all I do is in the first box state the normal base, that was 54mg, and whatever quantity say 100ml for example, then adjust it for 100% PG. Then take the second box, make it zero mg, say 100ml (to halve it in theory) and make that one 100% VG, ask it to calc it and there we go! Now I made it use other numbers, and with very little playing about it came in at 18mg spot on! I actually find that approach to be intuitive, and felt some confidence in doing it that way. Next part: As for costs, it's that hefty outlay that may prevent me. I just don't have a budget that shape to work with. Shall see what can be worked out of course, but it's not looking too good. My break even won't be until October, and that's depending on it being possible for things to be delivered at all after tomorrow. (Thanks a bunch Royal Mail!) Next part: The deionised bit came from the excellent post by Grizwald about how to mix the way he learned and why. I got a feeling that guy may know his stuff! LOL So I felt inspired to use what I learned from reading that thread. He says they differ and don't go with distilled. Who am I to argue? Thanks for what you did though, it was greatly appreciated and will be for some time to come by loads of newbies like me!

If you ever get stuck, i am at MK boot sale most Sunday mornings if you ever want to meet? That is a handy thing to know, and I shall bear it in mind! I don't get out a whole lot, but you just never know! I've known a fair few boot sales down the years in MK, which one is it you go to?

Thank you so kindly Perpetua! I've managed to pin the wee brat into a corner now, and it's a bit but workable at last! I will look over the other one at some point too! Now I shall have to go spend a lot of time and probably money looking into all those caramel links - you must be psychic as I had spotted that you liked caramel too, so I was about to ask you for some advice in that area, and here you are with all the info! Nice!

I don't see why not ancienthermit but I don't dilute my vg, I use it as is cos I'm teetotal too. Don't they do a smartprice brand? could be worth looking at. Maybe a lot more cost effective Agreed, afaik its fine to use any vodka, as long as its unflavoured, think most people do 90%VG and 10% vodka and here is a how to use guide for e juice me up link Thanks for that link, it's still a bit of a brat, but a far more manageable one now! I also just lucked in to some de-ionised water at Amazon - they said it's good for topping up car battery acid so I guess it's fine for internal consumption! LOL A bit of a sobering thought that one!

Oh and one more thing about all this, I know deionised water is presently hard to find for me (long story) I will need to go with Vodka; However I don't drink and know even less about Vodka, is there any reason I should not use the Absolut brand. It's just that it comes in smaller sizes and I could just throw it in my basket online at Asda! I'm housebound and have to use online for my shopping, but that is one choice I can gain access to! I can't seem to get deionised water in my shopping basket though! (a thoroughly daft situation really!)

Don't forget to alter the top row where it says nic strength ejuice put in either 100% pg or vg. Next line it will ask you target nic strength, you enter 13mg or whatever you are aiming for, next row it will ask you amount to make, enter amount wanted. Next line will ask you the flavour your using , you put in the box the % of flavouring you're using. Further down where it says PG and VG you enter the ratio that you want your mix to be. If it comes as a negative number, you must keep playing with the ratios until you have positives on both PG and VG. Other than that if you want it VG heavy just add the 2 together and omit the PG. The LT web site you told me about says to use about 4% as a starting point with the inawera caramel flavour they sell, however there is no mention of it's PG/VG status, in fact, no data at all? I dunno what to do about that bit. Oh and can I enter the 100% VG as if it were a flavour to get the % cut as I want it? I've just found out that you can enter the PG as 100% and ignore the 94.6% mentioned on the vendor's web site! Makes the software a bit less user hostile at that point. Oh, hang on, is this a light bulb moment? Do I just cut the PG nic with VG first? (they only sell that crystal 54 as PG sadly) Then I could describe it as 50-50 to the software could I not? ???

What ratio would you like your finished juice to be ancienthermit? If you buy the vg nic base and n13mg @ 50/50 ratio 2.41 nic base 3ml pg 2.59vg 2ml flavour. If you wanted all vg I would personally just add the 2 together so 3ml pg + 2.59 vg= 5.59ml vg in total well I a week or two back I had some 24mg that was 50/40 PG/VG and as it was too strong I cut it with VG (liking more vapour and less throat hit) to be equal parts, and it came out pretty damn fine as I saw things! Now that is what tells me 12mg or so could be ok, but it could perhaps stand being a little higher. Was totally fine for a rescue job though! 20 is not too much too strong, no more than that though. 18 is mostly fine, I would imagine 16 to be ok for me about now as well. I don't object to trying to push for the lower nic to work for me as long as I can up the strength of the caramel flavour a bit at the same time, I reckon that could be a winning strategy for me. I have a sweet tooth which sadly I dare not scratch as I am a diabetic, hence my finding the flavour of caramel to be quite persuasive in making me rather happy with a lower nic content! It's also why I will not be stopping vaping after I get off the nic!

Don't be scared of mixing, it isn't that complicated once you get the hang of it I don't vape caramel, so I can't advise on which to choose, but different brands of the same flavour can be very different, so be prepared for some disappointments until you find your feet. Make sure you remember to get bottles to mix in (always need more than you think for experiments) And I find pipettes are the easiest way of measuring nic. I usually drop the actual flavour using 20 drops = 1ml (some say 25 or 30) For the base (pg/vg) a measuring cylinder is pretty easy, bottles always hold more than they say, so if you want to be exact you will need to measure your base (I don't any more, because a little extra base isn't that big a deal for me ) The maths only gets complicated if you want to go for complicated recipes, keep it simple at the start, I always mix a new flavour on it's own to get to know it, and then mix it with other premixed flavours in the clearo until I figure out what goes with what. Basically, it all sounds complicated until you start, then you realise it is quite straight forward Because of steeping times and experiments, you need to have a supply of ready to vape for a week or two I am not quite getting the hang of the calculator at present, so unless that changes then it's going to be way too much for me - I'm not that good with maths, algebra I can do but numbers are my Achilles heel for sure. It's sure proving a bit frustrating with that "e-juice me up", that just, well, it just won't!

Or you could buy some 18mg Caramel and mix part with the 8mg. to get the strength that you require.......but for the future, mixing your own is the way to go Yes, that is also on the books for the first instance! Actually intending to get 24mg and make 16mg with that lot. As you say though the future is home made!
