Ok then, I'll just sit tight. Only 3 weeks, 6 days and 14 hours to see what all the hype is about

Made my first batch of this today. Now just need the patience to let it steep. How long before you can give it a go? Also I used Vanillin concentrate as opposed to the crystals, will this make much of a difference?

Thanks for the input guys, I guess it's just a case of perfecting each mix one by one until you have a bank of great recipes. With taste being so subjective it's good to hear the method around creating the blends that are perfect for you. I'll keep plugging away with it and I'm sure I'll get there in the end I just want to make sure I'm on the right track to begin with. I did my first mixes 2 weeks ago and I'll try them this week and go from there.
I think I'm still in the mentality of a cook where you can taste it, add something to it, taste it again and keep doing this until it's right. More patience needed for this!

Hey I’m pretty new to mixing and I just have a couple of questions on how you go about perfecting your recipes. I’m am finding it strange that you can make a mix and not know if it’s any good for a few weeks and if there are ways that you can alter the mix and know immediately if it has improved it or not.
1 ) For example, you make a mix, leave it to steep for 3 to 4 weeks, you try it and decide the flavour is too weak. Once you add more flavour does the mix then need to steep again for another few weeks?
2) When using additives do they need to be in during the steeping process or can they be added after? Say I make a nice mix and just want to see what it might be like with a few drops of Koolada, can I vape that straight away or does it need to be left again?
3) Can you make a mix deliberately too strong, leave it to steep and then just add an unflavoured mix to it and be ready to vape? Surely if you’re trying to tone down a mix it doesn’t need additional steeping time?
Any wisdom you guys have on how you go about playing with recipes would be much appreciated.

If the first sale doesn't work out I'd happily take it off your hands

Hi, I’ve been lurking around these pages for a while and looking to give my first mix a go, mainly because I wanted to try the fabled “Red Astair” but really don’t like the 80/20 mix T-juice use. I’m going to start off simple, just using 1 flavour and then experiment with it to find out what kind of PG/VG ratios, nic strength and flavour % suits me.
A couple of questions I have first. 1) What size batches are best to make when first starting out? 2) I see a lot of people measuring things in drops. Is there a good reason to use drops over a 1ml syringe? From a first timers perspective it seems a lot less precise. 3) Why do people use AVG or put vodka into VG? Is this something that should be used in all mixes or just high VG one? (I’m probably going to be mixing around 50/50 or 60/40 I think) 4) All the posts I’ve read people either use 100% PG or VG nic base. When I was looking for supplies I saw they did a 50/50 base. Has anyone used this before or is there a good reason not to use it? After putting a few numbers through the mix calc it seems to offer a hell of a lot more flexibility than a 100% base. 5) Are there any concentrates that are a “must have”? So far the flavours I have enjoyed are more fruity and dessert type juices. 6) Are things like MTS and Magic Mask worth getting when you first start out or is it something that’s better used when you start making more complex flavours? 7) Menthol flavourings. What’s the best/easiest way of giving your mixes that fresh feeling?
Any help or advice from you guys would be highly appreciated.

I'm 2 months into vaping myself and went through the 'mute flavour' stage a couple of weeks back. The best advice I got through was to get some micro coils and start wicking with cotton wool. It all looks pretty daunting at first but there is a really great guide here. You can buy pre-made coils from fasttech here and then all you need to do is get hold of some cotton wool, Sainsbury's basic are the best to get hold of easily as they aren't perfumed. I'm currently waiting on a shipment of coils which should be here in the next few days, when they are here I'd happily send you some over. It immediately gave a better flavour and it's all I use now. It works great on the Evod tanks. Also I'd give a plus one of smoke rainbow as you can try a whole load of flavours for not a lot of money, it really gave me a good idea of what flavours I liked and which I didn't. Plus they are already steeped and ready to vape.

Yeah but I've vaped stuff straight away and left some for 2 weeks yet found the same with all of them. How long do they need to steep before they are like that straight away or is it something in the tank that improves them? Has anyone else found this?

I've been trying out a lot of smokerainbow samples in Evod tanks. I have quite a few tanks on the go at once and don't vape particularly heavily. I've also starting wicking with cotton wool.
I've noticed that the liquids always seem to taste a bit bland at first then after a couple of days the flavours start to come together and taste a lot better. I've read about steeping and have left my current batch 2 weeks before vaping them. I also opened them up when I first got them to let some air in as I read this would help.
Why do they end up getting better? Is it to do with the air or the heat perhaps? If so is there a better way to get great tasting vapour straight out of the bottle?

I think it was because I wasn't using enough cotton wool. I was reading the forums about it and someone said that you should use half the amount that you think it should be and I think that stuck with me. Tried it again now with more and it works perfectly, thanks guys! It only works on my mini protank adaptor and not my evod one though. Whereas they did the first time I tried them?

So I tried my first micro-coil and cotton today with the pre-made coils that babs so kindly sent me. Got it all done, tested and came out at 2 ohms on the nose. Had a couple of drags which had a lot better flavour and hit. I then left it on the side for 15-20 mins. When I when back to it and tried it again, it had completely flooded and was gargling. I have had this issue before with this tank but no where near as bad as this. Any ideas what I could have done wrong?

Thanks to the hero that is babs I'm getting some pre-made coils sent over to try out wicking with cotton wool. I'll see how that goes and hopefully will get a much improved flavour! Thanks for all the help guys! One last thing. With the resistance of coils, am I right in saying lower resistance makes for a harsher, full on vape where as higher is for a smoother, subtle vape?

I'm not sure steeping is the problem. I bought juices from smokerainbow, which should be ready to go and gave them and extra week before using and still finding they lack a bit of a punch.
Cheers for the info on the RBA, I didn't really want to waste that kind of money thats only going to make a marginal difference.
The microcoils with cotton wool seems the most appealing, it would mean investing in some tools that I don't have lying around though. Is there anyone out there who sells them ready made?

I've been experimenting with a few different clearomisers now (Evod, iclear 16 and mini protank 2). Whilst I've found them good I've found the flavours aren't really as sharp as they should be. I feel that the vapours should taste as good as they smell but aren't really finding that. I read somewhere that this is a common problem with clearomisers and should go with something else. Any ideas for ways to get a full flavoured vape?
I'm using an itaste vv/vw 3.0, surely that can't be the problem? Can a battery affect the flavour?
