you have a higher than average chance of falling foul to this rule on your first submission, as the process is new and you are unfamiliar. I did..ended up coughing up over £400 in fines eventually as they jsut keep adding late fees as time goes by. You dont file late ever again..there's enough warning even via radio adverts.
Anyway, so this year they are flooded with 890000 late/incomplete/not filed yet/ returns, and a million complaints letters, and yet they didnt have any systems failure that we are aware of. Working from this, we can figure out that more than a million people went the self-employed cupcake maker route, with tax credits, in the last year. Our miracle economy is saved, unemployment is at its lowest, hurray! All hail the government.

I've reworked the original contact with a ballpoint pen spring. The assembly is press-fitted together in the factory and is a bit of a pain to disassemble. the thread on squonking.co.uk has been updated accordingly.

yeah bud...the negative connection is too strongly springed (I just made up those words). The firing pin has a nice landing area near the top, which almost never touches the actualy positive ring inside the top of the mod. So you end up making contact ont he side of a small pin. Take it apart and you'll see the marks it has made. I really didnt notice anything until after some time as the marks are from dirty sparks and such. To check if you have the problem, press the button such that it tilts a bit..and try different tilt angles. If suddenly your battery doesnt feel flat anymore, then your pin is dirty in some places. It really does depend on the battery, but doing this mod means any typer of battery will work as it just gets pushed down till the firing pin makes proper contact.
If you remove the battery and push the button, you'll see the little pin pop out into the battery compartment, probably 1mm or so. But that is not where the battery positive is, so you dont get full contact through a wide area when firing.
I havent managed to take the original negative contact apart, but *when* I do, then a spring chop can be done to the existing spring perhaps to achieve the same thing. Also, a weaker spring like I have fitted means the battery is no longer pressed against the top of the battery compartment by the strength of a hundred men, so you can now rattle the box about a bit. Rather have that than inconsistent firing. I'm doing this mod to both of my Owls.
alternative ideas: you could grind/sand off a bit of the firing pin bottom, but then your owl will only work well with the battery you sized it for. you could add some little ring enforcer sticker (as used when hole punching paper) to the top of a battery, so the positive of the battery is a bit low. But you'll have to do that to all our batteries, and charging them may be iffy. the spring idea, as originally designed, is correct to solve this, but I do think someone went to the parts bin and got an over-enthusiast spring instead of a nice light one.

if you have mixed squash for kids, then you understand already how to get your 72mg nic to become 18mg nic. You need to dilute it from 72 down to 18......and because 4 x 18=72 we can say: 1 part of YOUR nic to 3 parts of other ingredients. (to give us 4 total parts) so a 10ml bottle would need 2.5ml of YOUR nic. (the 1 part) and 7.5ml of other stuff. (the 3 parts) if you want 20% flavour, then you need 2ml's of flavour in your 10ml bottle because 2 of 10 is 20%
so your recipe is now 2.5ml's nic 2ml's flavour =4.5ml there's your 18mg, and there's your 20% flavour
so you now need 5.5ml of either pg or vg or a mixture, to make a complete, full 10ml bottle.
but please take care, 72mg is the highest you can lay your hands on, and it is important that you understand it needs diluting before use to a much lower level. There are a multitude of online calculators available, play aroudn with the numbers until it starts making sense like my example values do. The it will all fall into place.

the atty pin can adjust..the first three or so full turns are quite tight so it stays on the adjustment you put it, but (as I later discovered due to a poster on here) the pin on the mod also adjusts and it seems preferable to use that for adjustment to me.
whats everyone's thoughts on this squonker? good buy?

:-)
tip#3: if you are using flat top batteries, you'll have more fun if you put the battery in upside down. The firing pin on the button prefers it.

yep..the top section pulls off..it has two orings, lube as usual before use. tip#2: the one I got today likes to cut the wire all by itself when screwing down, in which case, just use the "under the screw head method" instead of through the post holes method. or go do some light sanding on the screw bottoms to stop it cutting the wire off.

shiny black "smokeless" branded groupbuy squonker just popped through my mailbox. :-) random untracked postage was selected, and envelope shows china post markings. Top marks. Didnt expect it will middle nex week at least.
RDA labelled OML...so the OWL ones must be more scarce.
Small tip to those new to bottom feeding: Cut an inverted V-shape into the bottom of the tube. This prevents the tube from fully touching the bottom of the bottle and suctioning itself, which would prevent any squonk whjen squeezing the bottle. With a little inverted V notch, there is always place for the liquid to enter the tube, and for the air to enter the bottle, even if the tube is touching the bottom of the bottle a scissor and 20 seconds solves this permanently.
