Geoffuk- I can sympathise with your other half. I have to admit, I still struggle with the techie side of vaping. I don't like fiddling with the batteries, the constant charging, the little atomisers that have to be changed... I haven't had a rollup in two months, but I miss them. To simply sit down with papers and tobacco and not have to mess about with gadgety metal and plastic bits. I'm sorry to say, I was seriously tempted get out what is probably a very stale pouch of Golden Virginia when I discovered the silly thing needed charging yet again this morning. I think if you're not a natural techie, (that would be me! ) vaping will always be a challenge, because they seem to be designed for users who actually like that aspect of it. The language is confusing, too- I had to get the most basic, simple vape pen I could find just so that I didn't give it up too soon. I will probably try and stick with it, despite longing for my simple rollies, (and lighters! I really used to enjoy buying lighters when I went on holiday as souvenirs ) and hope that one day they manage to come out with a Luddite vape thingie. It's really lovely that you're trying to hard to make it easy for her! Best of luck.

Ok, so I'm new to this vapemail business ...but just got this to keep my eCig in. It's a metal tube with a screw-top lid to protect it in my rucksack or handbag. They match. Sort of.

That's all really helpful, everyone... I know it's probably blindingly obvious, but I just didn't want to take a chance, (even though it's only a £20 kit!) and risk ruining it. I think sometimes the instructions that come with gadgets are written by people who are so accustomed to using the thing that they forget how it appears to a total beginner. Thanks so much for all the tips and encouragement!

I changed the atomiser yesterday... (I've figured out how to do that, at least!) because it was starting to taste a bit like charcoal. Not quite as bad as an ant,but getting close.

Ok, here goes another daft newbie question! I know there's a part of my e-cig that needs washing now and again... but I keep coming across different words for the same parts of it. I even googled 'Parts of an e-cig" but ended up more confused than ever. There is one diagram that calls what I thought was the atomiser a 'head', while another doesn't identify it at all. There is one part (in different illustrations) called either a tank, a cartridge, a tankomizer, or a clearomiser, (I think this is the part I wash, but am not sure). Other diagrams also call the mouthpiece a drip tip or also a cartridge. I do know now what an atomiser is! Do I take that out, or wash it too? Sorry to be so clueless- but I don't want to ruin the thing! (Oh- and just in water, or with washing up liquid?) Thanks, everyone!

As for making VG more runnu there are two way that I read up on and implemented with 100% sucess. Although I am aware that some might not agree but if you use deionised water (cheap big bottle of tesco one works a treat) will give you consistency you desire if added gradually into your liquid. Doing this also enchaces the vapour production. The second way is to dilute it with vodka. This will require you to leave the liquid for approx 4-5 hours with lead open for the bulk of the alcohol to evaporate. This on the other hand will improve flavour production. This is what I have used personally and been satisfied with I think I would prefer the vodka method... but about how much do you think I should add to a 15ml bottle?

Excellent advice, Chykensa ... I wish I'd seen it before buying my first kit, (only about a month ago now!) I think what happens is what Hijack said... people buy the kit first, then think... "Uh oh... I need some help!" That's what I did- bought what the man in the shop said would be the best for me, got it home and couldn't remember half what he said...except that there was something going to need changing... and did I need to turn it on to charge it? How would I know when it needed charging?? I took it out of it's box, got totally flummoxed by the very tiny instruction booklet and put it back in the box and had a rollup. It wasn't until a few weeks later, (and quite a few more roll-ups!) that I had a look online and found this site. Vaping can be a very bewildering and off-putting world to newbies... all the techie bits and pieces- wicks and atomisers and something called mAh and about 10,000 sites selling juices that have weird things called PG and VG in them- in varying amounts. For now, I can just about cope with my ego kit, but I know now that whenever I do upgrade to something more advanced there are people here who are more than willing to help me make the best choice.

When I first started trying to vape, I coughed and ended up with a sore throat... I read that some people can be allergic to the propylene glycol, so I got paranoid and ordered the 100% vegetable glycerin liquid. I didn't realise it would be so thick! What if I were to (after it's steeped) add it to what's already in the tank, (the freebie that came with my kit, which is a tobacco flavour 70pg-30vg) would that help to thin it down? I don't mind the flavours being mixed a bit, and the freebie has a slightly sweetish aftertaste so it might be quite nice. I'll definitely come here to ask for help before I upgrade to anything new- the variety out there is just too vast for me to even know where to start!

The only one I have is my One Kit from the UK Ecig Store... I'm a complete novice, (only been vaping consistently for about 2 weeks now- only had one roll-up yesterday!)

It was a sample pack of five little 5ml bottles from one company, (brandy, coconut, Jamaican rum, VY3 tobacco, and Long Island Iced Tea) and a bigger 15ml bottle of maple waffle from a different company. I read on the website of the company that I got the maple flavour from about steeping, but I wasn't sure for how long. Thanks for all the info- I didn't realise that different types might need different lengths of time. All of the flavours smell nice, except for the tobacco one with is a bit strange... I might leave that one for a week or so, and hope it improves. That link was very useful, Qsplan... I've bookmarked it. Would the coconut one count as a fruity flavour? That's the one I'd like to try first! PS. The samples are all 50PG and 50vg... the bigger bottle is 100% vg and is much thicker.

I just got my first bottles of e-liquid through the post today. I'm not quite sure about how to go about steeping them... I shook them, and put them in a cupboard, but I don't know if I should leave the lids off or not? and about how long should I leave them for? I still have some left of the bottle I was given when I bought my kit which ought to last me for another three or four days, (I hope). I know from what I've read the longer I wait the better, but I might have to dip into one of them by the middle of next week if I run out. Any tips appreciated! (oh... and do I need to shake them every day?? I did open them just to smell them... a couple of them are really nice!

That's lovely of you, Jane... fortunately I've got a few weeks before we go, and the herbalist I buy from always sends things in ziplock bags... so I've got quite a few at the moment! I do try and avoid anything from Chinese vendors now- too many bad experiences. It's proving difficult to determine which e-liquids are from there... I'm being paranoid I'm sure, but there have been stories about herbs from China that have been badly contaminated, so I try and steer clear of anything edible, drinkable, (and now vapable!) that is from there. UK made is best.

Thanks ever so much Tim! I've sent you a PM now. Chykensa... I've been meaning to get one of those powerbanks- it didn't occur to me that it would be good for my e-cig, too, (I was thinking of the cameras!) I'll definitely have a look at those, that's a good idea. Mod Destroyer... do you think I should put the eliquid in something else for safekeeping? I've been trying to check on regulations, and all I can find is that it might have to go in the plastic bag with any other carry on liquids... I am worried about them leaking, though. The bottle that came with my kit is still half-full, but I'll probably vape more if I'm just sitting around, especially by the pool... or the bar! (so hopefully will be vaping a LOT!) so better take at least one extra bottle of something basic, (the free one is pretty nice- could always get another one of that.) I want to keep it simple... don't want to invest in something nice and discover it broken in my luggage. You guys are great. Thanks so much for all the advice and really useful tips!

I've been trying to find spare bits for my OneKit, (battery, atomisers) but everywhere seems to be out of stock of them. I'm trying to find a place that has both, to try and save on postage... I'm wondering if it might not just be easier to get another of the same kit? (In a different colour, so I know which is charged and which one isn't!) Although, I'm wondering if there is a better alternative to the one I have, because a few people have said it's not really the best one.... have tried reading reviews, but end up going around in circles, (and keep ending up on American sites selling things not available in the UK... I hate when Google does that!) The reason is, we are going on holiday at the end of the month, and I don't want to get there and discover that it's run out of charge or it needs a new atomiser... by the pool with drink in hand, I know I'd be tempted back onto the ciggies! I've been good today- only two rollups. Should I just go ahead and get a cheap back-up? I am on a tight budget, and I am not sure what they are called...ego kits? the ones that look like very large pens- those I the ones I prefer. It doesn't have to be a great one, just enough to get me through a week-long holiday with putting any more strain on my wallet! off to look at e-liquids now.... I like doing that.
