Truff ( Truffington? ) on Ebay was always the blue screen of death guru Lilac, I don't know if he's about still.

Lilac, you should've got a disc when you bought your pc. Basically, it's the recovery disc with the Windows XP software on it.
The disc formats the computer and puts it back to how it was when you bought it.

I have one of those Hissie, but when i insert it, it tells me the version of windows on my computer is newer than that on the disc and won't do anything else... thats why i thought a boot disc was different? eeeek...sometimes i just hate computers....

I replaced the video card with another and it's caused minor probs for ages, dunno if it might be the cause of this?

The graphics card sounds suspicious Here is the eBay Techie forum - there's already a post there about blue screen but I reckon you should start another, and tell them everything you can about the PC and the operating system: community.ebay.co.uk/forum/General-Technical-Issues/1004I have found something about making your own XP recovery CD from the i386 folder on the system ??? I shall investigate whether I can do this on my XP Home desktop PC (which is just "there" gathering dust). Later... Bad news - Bro says he threw out my floppy boot disks He says he would put the old video card back in, see if that helps (but you may not have it, of course). So I think that Grumpy-Cook and Old*Angler on the Techie board are your best bet. scylla

Lilac, I should imagine that the eBay Techie board will be more than happy to have a new techie thread started. Since the new platform that renamed the board & moved it into the selling section, they are inundated with OT threads about selling on eBay etc

Thanks guys, we seem to be back in business I nagged no2 son into hoovering out the inside of pc, the graphics card was all clogged with dust, on it's wee fan so he blew that out and clouds of dust flew everywhere...i have the parrots cage quite close to the pc, and they're really dusty birds, my last computer looked like it was used in an old textile factory, according to the pc guy that came out anyway, i found an old boot disc i made yonks ago and booted from that, the checkdisc things found quite a few unreadable sectors and fixed them, so all's well.
