I'd be inclined to get a 2nd opinion. If I wasn't sure i'd always ask another vet and see what their opinion was.

Thanks both... I've got an appointment with another practice at 4.10 today to get a 2nd opinion. Scylla, asap is my thinking also, but i'm not happy that he pooh pooh'd and waved his hand when i said i had no more Rimadyl tabs, yet i've read on numerous sites, that it's a valuable part of the treatment, being an anti inflammatory as well as painkiller and i can see he's defo in pain today, where he wasn't while taking the tabs...I do tend to question whether in all honesty he's doing the best he can for my dog, without his pocket coming into the equation.. The possible other good thing about this other practice is that the receptionist told me the vet is away on hols from fri, and the locum who is replacing him is an eye specialist... we'll see what this vet says today..

I've had vets that haven't filled me with confidence before so I know how it is. The one we are with now is a bit more expensive than our old vet but I trust him completely and the nurses are all lovely too.

Thanks guys, i do rely on gut feelings a lot of the time, rightly or wrongly, but it just doesn't sit right with me to agree to the extra week with the drops but stop the pain medication when he's obviously in pain. Maybe some non animal lovers wouldn't understand....but i'd rather suffer the discomfort myself, than have one of my dogs suffer it

I agree completely with you, i'd rather be in pain than see my pets in pain. Your gut feeling seems about right to me x

Vet says that sounds about right, with the op, mainly cos of his age (he's 10) but she did agree with me that he should be on the painkillers and gave me some... for the first time since i started them on their raw diet in feb, he wouldn't eat his dinner one painkiller later, in a bit of cheese, and he was eating it 20 mins later...wee soul. so, i'll see how it goes over the next couple of days and if no improvement, its op time i think i'll attempt to get away early on friday (they won't be happy, but too bad, methinks) and go see this eye specialist locum to see about arranging it asap.

wow, you were either up very late, or very early Lynda The holiday was great thanks, apart from the constant worry and occasional bubbling sessions by the pool He had his last check up on wednesday and the vet says he's happy with his eye (he's now had 3 ops, the last one while we were away, they stitched his 3rd eyelid over the eye this last time) he's back to his usual, puppylike self, or at least, as close to a puppy as a 10yr old can get!!

Lilac,
Very relieved to hear that news....
He's a boxer; he'll never be anything other than a puppy, Bless him.

Time for a Tyson update I think....
How are your boys doing?
Daisy upchucked this morning but I think that's because she just gulped her food.
Mungo is always very attentive when Daisy shows signs of throwing up. Most of the time he tries to pretend that she doesn't live here.
That's probably more information than is necessary!
He's usually thwarted......

Hiya Lynda they're doing fine...Tyson's coat is gleaming and Murphy is looking well too and they both love their meals... Am having a giggle at Mungo watching Daisy in case she unloads her dinner...tis funny only thing is, both dogs now have very waxy ears which they never ever had before, and it causes them a lot of irritation Gordon thinks it might be them still detoxing, but they've been on their raw diet for more than 6 months now?
