personally i wouldnt waste your money on a smaller grinder, all the ones ive tried just dont last for very long, especially when you are feeding a larger dog or multiples. Re the bashing... try putting it in a bag first (the large tie handle freezer bags are ideal), and then cover with a tea towel just incase any bones poke through the bag.

I absolutely knew it was necessary and would enhance his life, would be relatively painless, and would make life generally more pleasant for him. Still, when I left him with the vet nurse, I wept because I didn't want to leave him.
The nurse assured me that they would take the greatest care of him. Mungo gave me high 5 and walked away with never a backward glance.( I had given the nurse his tube of pate for rewards and he will follow that anywhere.)
I had 2 hours to kill before I could go to collect him.
I went to buy petrol, bought him more raw meat , went to the supermarket for some food for myself, and for some offal for HIM, took it all home and stowed it in the freezer.
Suddenly it was time to go fetch my boy, and suddenly the traffic was horrendous and every light was red!!
I finally reached him just a couple of minutes late.
''Have you come for Mungo'' they said. ''YES'' I gulped. ''He's been very good, although he's still a bit damp. He didn't like the drier so we've had to dry him by hand'' He's clean and fresh, and smelling rather oddly of flowers, has neat feet and other bits.
He's been ''Poodled'' and he milked every minute of the process.... That's my boy!! Much to his chagrin, Daisy, the one eyed cat, kissed him as he entered the house....

Lilac,
How are the doggies doing now?
Have you noticed any difference with Tyson's skin etc. since he's been fed raw?
Lynda.

Lilac, since you told us about Tyson's eye I've been calling him Mungo in my head, thinking "surely that's not right?"... I do hope I haven't called him Mungo in print And I'm sorry for borrowing Mungo's name Lynda, in answer to your question while Lilac's not here, I am sure she's said there has been a big improvement in Tyson's skin. Fingers and toes crossed for {{{Tyson}}} scylla x

You did call him Mungo in print, the other day, but when i told him about it, he said 'ah, but i know Scylla loves me, so i don't care what she calls me, and i'm sending her a huge, slobbery boxer kiss to show her i'm not offended' guess it's okay then Yes, Lynda, there's been a tremendous difference in his skin, he's been completely clear of lumps & bumps for a few weeks now....having said that, 2 or 3 have made an appearance in the last few days, so i'm hoping it's not a relapse... but now that its been completely clear, it should be easier to track down the culprit if/or when it does flare up again... he's been back to the vet on friday tho, as he's had runny eyes, then one got worse, so i took him...it's not good, he has an ulcer and they're talking anaesthetics and scraping of eyes, but im praying the antibiotic drops they've given him in the meantime will heal it, she did say it was doubtful, given that he's 10 now, but maybe the better diet will help him heal, i truly hope so so...how's Mungo doing on it?

Awww Scylla, Mungo doesn't mind who uses his name. He's a kind and generous boy who loves people and knows that we have idiosyncrasies that he doesn't even try to understand.. He'd answer to Tyson's name if that was what I decided to call him. I'm sorry that your emotions are so close to the surface at the moment. I'm always like that at the end of a night shift... Mungo loves his raw diet. Every meal time, he sits and watches as I prepare it, eyes wide with wonder, and, when I put his bowl down, he looks at it and then gazes at me with an ''Is that REALLY for me?'' expression. I never knew feeding a dog could be so fulfilling.... I know he has had less (none) digestive problems and he actually seems to be a little calmer/more relaxed. Lilac, I don't know if this link might be useful for Tyson's eye... pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9Nutrition/message/156528If you can't access it then let me know and I'll cut and paste it for you. Hope he makes a swift recovery. Lynda

Thanks Lynda, i did have a look at it and altho it says that the acid (cant remember the name) had a comparable healing effect to gentomycin, which is what he's getting in the drops he's on, it had more of a favourable effect on the healing, i didn't have time to read more, but i've found that loads of the stuff they recommend on there isn't available here, or if it is, it's much more expensive, but i will note the name and ask the vet about it on Monday, to see what he says. I was there yesterday with Tyson and he is already of the opinion that he will need the operation, he said that the additional week he's now gave Tyson to carry on with the drops is more about giving me time to come to terms with the fact that he needs it done, than hoping he will heal with drops alone.... ever the optimist me, im praying that he's wrong.....it's not just the cost £350+) it's the fact that im going on holiday to Tenerife 2 weeks today and i'm soooo worried about how Darren & my dad will cope with a post op dog with very painful eye, putting drops in and whatever...if i tell you that my dad was saying things like 'maybe it's time you had him put down' when it was just the scabby coat he had, you'll maybe see why im concerned... Gordon is paying for this holiday as my 50th birthday pressie, so there's no way i can cancel it, but i don't think that putting the op off till we come back is an option, not when he's in such discomfort, so i might have to see if they can just do it without waiting the week, but then i might be putting him thro all that when he would have healed without it, if he had more time.... i just don't know what to do for the best

What a terrible dilemma for you {{{Lilac}}} My honest opinion, influenced by a tragic experience I had with a pet's eye problem, is the sooner the better unless you see dramatic healing in a day or two. scylla x
