Scylla, it takes a while for a frozen turkey to thaw, you usually have to leave it out overnight.
I know what Boxing Day is, but we don't celebrate it over here.

Does it have *shudder* giblets's Scylla . . if you can get them out it will defrost quicker . . if it doesn't have them, then that shows how long it is since I cooked an entire bird. Glad to hear your wrist is better, but still think you should have had an x-ray to be on the safe side.

You're right about the xray, Perpy, but I just could not go. I wish I wasn't left-handed for so many things, even using the mouse aggravates the pain. Yes, there are giblets - you only get them with frozen birds nowadays, shame. I've been pulling out some ice so am hoping to get them out soon. I'm honestly not worried about when it's ready for cooking, just relieved that it's in good nick. May I take this opportunity (eww, get yewww!) to thank everyone for putting up with my drama queen behaviour over the life-threatening injury I do need to vent and then pat myself on the back for toughing it out scylla x

Turkey went in the oven at 3pm, stock is simmering on the hob. I won't describe the struggles and the mess (you'd be bored stiff) but it's all cleaned up now. Trouble is, I'm too tired to prepare the veg so I may postpone dinner until tomorrow scylla

M'lady, domestic turkeys are dumb, they have very little in the brain department and wild turkeys are mean. They have been know to attack people without any provocation. They deserve to be eaten. Right Scylla !!!! lol. Sorry, Chrissie, I know, I'm naughty.

Chrissie - and all those who are offended by overcooking - avert your eyes I had a suspicion something was "not right" when the darn thing looked well done after 2 hours - but I dared not unwrap it cos of me injury, I managed to turn tray back to front though. I wonder if I made a mistake over the time when I put it in? This is exactly as it came out after I'd cut the bag off all round the edges (Photobucket is deadly today, this pic should be 800x600, hopefully it soon will be): And this is what it looked like after I'd put a carving fork inside it and lifted it from one tray to another (That's 2 halves of orange that were inside, nothing indecent.) It just completely fell to bits apart from the breast, which I suspect is dry as a bone However, I had a bit of leg meat and a bit of wing meat and it was really lovely, and me stuffin' and modest veg were lovely too, and me gravy, if I say so meself. scylla
