Speaking as a RGN that worked in ITU/CCU,it should help. One of the big problems is that in ciggie smoke there are over 4000 toxic gases, these irritate the lung lining and produce mucus. In e juices, you just have Nicotine, the base carrier(PG/VG) and flavourings. So hes already getting the Nicotine, some people can be sensitive to PG and some flavourings but thats not a common occurance.I would let him try a few tokes on your setup and see what he thinks of it.He may need a higher Nic level, but thats not a problem. That's reassuring. Vaping has to be better for him than smoking. I called round to see him and he tried my Twist. I had it turned up high to suit me but it was too strong for him. The lowest setting suited him. He was very impressed. I hadn't read your reply when I was talking to him so suggested he mention it to his doctor next week. Looks like we might have found a way to finally get him (and me) off the smokes. Firinblanks: Thanks for the link to that thread. COPD is horrible. Fear of falling victim to it is my primary motivation for finding a way to quit smoking. I really feel confident that vaping will work.

Addict, I also used to be a very heavy smoker - averaged about 50 ready mades a day Re your relative with COPD, does he use an inhaler to help him breath? If so, Inhalers use PG, one of the main ingredients found in PG based e-liquids.

He does use some kind of inhaler, mainly at night. It think it's a nebuliser. Although he won't be able to reverse the damage already done to his lungs, vaping has to be preferable to smoking and might help prevent further damage.
I know it has only been a few hours since I started using the Twist, but I can't believe how well it suits me. Normally, I would have smoked quite a few cigs by now but I haven't had one or even felt the need for one. Without thinking, I automatically lit a cig about a half hour ago, took one puff and stubbed it out. I took with a grain of salt all the comments that vaping tasted better than cigs but it is true. I'm a convert.

I'm so pleased that you're enjoying your kit addict I think you're right, my friend has early COPD and has been told by the doc that she can't reverse the damage, just stop it. She bought a cig-a-like at the same time as me in January, it didn't work for her unfortunately and she's not interested in my bigger batteries etc. She seems to feel that as she can't reverse the damage she will just carry on smoking I hope your friend gives vaping more of a chance

Addict, don't laugh at me, but I'm so blooming pleased for you I have a lump in my throat & my eyes are welling up & at the same time grinning from ear to ear If your relative doesn't feel up to splashing out on 2 Twist batteries & accessories to begin with, a Riva or Ego kit would be an excellent start for him.

Karma: Your friend is very, very foolish. My relative has advanced, possibly chronic, COPD and believe me it isn't pleasant. I believe he will make a real effort to quit smoking this time.
Chrissie: I'm not laughing. I am very grateful for your encouragement and advice. I was so blown away by the Twist that I couldn't wait to do the rounds of my fellow smokers to let them try it out. Each of them had the same reaction - that it's as good as smoking. If the one with COPD decides to take the plunge, his Twist will be an early Christmas present from me. The future's looking good.

Yes, addict. I totally agree that she's being very foolish. Hopefully your relative won't have to make a big effort to stop, with the right vaping gear lots of us have found it easy

Addict, I was the same as you when I tried my first e-cig over 4 years ago - just wanted to let as many folks as possible know about them. Hence the reason I initially set up an ebay group about e-cigs & then moved on to setting this forum up

Hi Addict, and very well done! I'm so pleased that the kit does the job for you, and that you have started vaping. It can be a bit daunting at first, but provided you keep us in touch, we can help out if you get into difficulties. Also Jason is to hand as ever to provide advice too. Let us know how your stinky rate is - hopefully low or non-existent!!

About 24 hours now since I started vaping. Haven't smoked a real ciggie since and have no urge to do so. No feeling that I have to draw on every ounce of willpower to resist smoking. I'm on my second pre-filled cart but the Twist battery is still going strong. So far so good. Vaping seems to be working for me.
From a glass half full aspect, I'm hoping that I won't get addicted to vaping. My aim (hope) is that I can eventually wean myself off the nicotine addiction and eventually the hand-to-mouth, sucking and puffing habit. Does that make sense?

Well done Addict #icon_bravo#
And yes it does make sense & that's just what some folks do.

That, Chrissie, is very reassuring. Do you know whether those who eventually stop vaping keep a little supply of juice in reserve for emergencies? That's what I'm hoping to do.
