Very sad indeed to hear the news about Jerry Rafferty :-( Still think Baker Street is such a brilliant song.

Here's something a bit more mellow - an Irish singer called Cara Dillon:
Trivia note: She's married (damn !) to the brother of Seth Lakeman.

What a beautiful voice, and I love the way her Northern Irish accent comes thru My favourite Irish (this one's southern) singer-songwriter is Lisa Hannigan - not everything she does, but lots. Here's a pretty video, again on a gentler note: scylla

I was just thinking that MrL's Joy Division track is very slightly Doors-derived. I used to have a tape, put together for me by a young friend in the late 80s, with Joy Division (not that track), New Order (Thieves Like Us and others), Frankie Goes to Hollywood (Warriors of the Wasteland) and some others whose names I've forgotten. Had a nice hifi at the time. Loved it. scylla

I had a really good teacher my father !! Eheh Ha, ha! that explains it Awww, Milady. Did I ever tell you about the "cougars"? A bit of trivia, Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam. I can't say that I have a favorite artist or song, since I like music from different times and artists. I just can't pick a favorite one.

*racking brain to remember about the cougars * Yep Jerry, I do know that Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam I was brought up a strict Catholic & that has left me feeling that most organised religions end up doing more harm than good However, I truly believe that Yusuf/Cat chose his path purely due to his deep belief in trying to find love & peace. Sadly though, there are fundamentalists in all religions Again, going back to my teens/early twenties, I will never forget the words of the comedian Dave Allen - May YOUR god go with you & I still think Cat/Yusuf is lovely, beautiful man

You remember the "cougar", Milady, a big furry, much like your little furballs, only much more dangerous. LOL
Something else we have in common as I was brought up a strict Catholic, also. As you may have gathered from my last name, I am only 1/4 Scottish, but 3/4 French Canadian and Acadian. My ancestry that is, as we rarely refer to ourselves as Americans, but as whatever our ancestors were. Therefore I am French and Scottish, my closest friend is Portuguese, his wife was Portuguese and Italian etc. I know, we are a strange lot. LOL
I prefer to think of myself as a Catholic in faith only, since I don't have much trust or faith in the leadership of the church. That's another story for another time, though.
