Steve Benbow It's all a bit vague for me too, MM - but, a very important question: Does your chewing-gum lose its flavour on the bed-post overnight? It would do if your old man was a dustman But Rock Island Line was my fave and another one I can't remember, dang!!! Talking of Lonnie, me being trained by mum in patriotism I resented the Kingston Trio's version of Tom Dooley - it took me further training by ex-hubby to realise how talented they were, I could still bathe in their sound. Others I got to know in the early-mid sixties were Peter, Paul & Mary (not the magic dragon kinda stuff), Carolyn Hester (not the zoo one ), Buffy St Marie, Odetta (oh! how she could sing the Beatles!), Joan Baez, Joanie (sorry, that's my Auntie Joanie's spelling, s/be Joni ) Mitchell, Tim Hardin, Tom Paxton, and the magnificent early Dylan The UK couldn't really compete with American singers whose voice-boxes were muscled into shape by their childhood twang. Totally carried away and lots omitted. scylla

Funnily enough, in another lifetime decades ago, I went to see Lonnie Donegan on holiday in Cornwall at the 'Talk of the West' I think it was then . . . . great live act he was too!

Awe Chrissie, thank you - just for me. That was a very sanitised song!!! They were two very handsome (cheeky) Scots laddies. I wonder if I would think so now if I saw their old pics. MM

Just over 7 years ago, my partner was dying. We had been to see friends on a wonderfully sunny Sunday and , when we got into the car to drive home, this song came on the radio. Ed said "I love this song..." I drove for a while with a huge lump in my throat, unable to speak. I still love it.

The thread started of with Fairport and i went to the Cropredy Convention in 2009 to see this man....there and back in one day but i got a kiss and cuddle and saw one of the best gigs he's ever done.I've followed this guy all my grown life......(bet he'd wished he'd taken more cd's now cause they sold out)
