What size batteries do you need to charge, Raggy? This £10 + P&P one from iVapour-Elixir does 10430 / 10440 / 14500 / 16340 / 17670 / 18650 / CR123A @ 3.7vwww.ivapour-elixir.co.uk/trustfire-18650-charger.htmlI'm sure that Toby would be only too pleased to discuss your concerns, he might know of a better or more suitable one ??? scylla

Scylla, I may be wrong but I think that is the charger that Raggy has had the problems with Raggy, if that is the same one as in Scylla's link, I've been using mine for about 18 months without any problems. I just don't know what to recommend as 100% safe. I wonder if it would be worth asking someone like Trog or starting a thread on ECF?

It was the charger Raggy bought I'm fairly certain. My TR-001 has also been absolutely fine, Raggy's been terribly unlucky. Excellent idea Chris on starting a thread on ECF, with the vast number of members there someone is bound to have a recommendation.

thanks girls, yes that is the same charger albeit there now black (mine is extra black). my batts are 14500 for the ggtb and of course i have the 18350s TW sd mk2 batts, one TW SD MK2 batts is the one that exploded NOT the trustfire 14500s.
i have had reply from the supplier and he seems to think the exploding batt might be 3v and not 3.7 i have sent him a photo of the others i have and a link too TWs batt where i got them from, it also states 3.7v on all the sd batts i have.
perpy i may well buy that one from you but i do want to try and find one with some fail safe features, i am also going to get a box of some sort to charge them in, i cant risk that again ref starting a thread on ecf, i will wait until i get the full response from the supplier as i dont want it to appear that im trying to blacken (lol) his name. this is also the reason i have not put up pictures of the incident. i spoke to chrissie regarding the pics and a full description of the incident yesterday, chrissie said i should put them up but i just want to give them a chance to sort it out first and maybe they will release a statement regarding this. raggy........

Wise Raggy, best not to prejudice any dealings in the matter at present. . . . I did think about asking on UKV as I saw someone post a link to one from the States that can charge a number of batteries at once, around £30 I think it was, although I'm not sure what the safety features of it are.
I decided against doing that as Abe from LF also posts on there occasionally.
Despite searching, I can't find the link now . . . . but I do wonder if you PM'd Hifistud he would be able to point you in the right direction as he was very taken with this particular charger and is again very knowledgeable on ecig matters.

I was trying to find a pic of the only battery I've ever had overheat - it was a GTL (brand) LR123A 1200mah, quite posh black and gold. I shouldn't really have used it in my SD MkI but it fitted OK as long as I didn't screw it up too tight. Anyway, one of the two I bought from a UK seller overheated after using it for a few weeks on and off. Anyway, I googled it and came across this thread about it, but it struck me that it's a specialist "flashlight" forum and I wonder if you might find some expertise there: www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=258591&page=1www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/content.phpscylla

scylla, ive covered more of the web than the local spider, torch sites seem to have plenty of info and a pila icb charger seems to be the best of sadly a bad bunch. i think i may even resort to using a blast tin/tub etc and just go for the same sort of charger again. i honestly cannot stress how bad this could have been, it could literally wipe your face out, thats without the missile hitting you, that just from the explosion. im sorry to keep harping on, i actually probably didnt say enough initially how bad it was, it is just how you might imagine a very small bomb going off. raggy...........

Horrifying, Raggy As you say, a blast tin is probably the way to go. I don't suppose a huge Tupperware-type box would do the trick? Wondering if it might bulge rather than shatter - but no good if the blast would go right thru it. I'm thinking of what I have here, don't have anything metal of sufficient size. I can well imagine that you'll go to any lengths to prevent a repeat of that dangerous "incident" (how inadequate ). scylla

I would mention it on ECF too Raggy, at some point, it's important to keep tally of any batteries/chargers going boom for the sake of everyone's safety

i have asked about a new charger on ECF and will post when the issue is resolved. i really cant see suppliers taking a great deal of notice as people have to have chargers. i fully expect that other suppliers will try to suggest user error just to muddy the issue, this will cast enough doubt for people not too panic/worry.
what does protected batteries actually mean, i thought that it meant cut out/off from excess charge or heat. raggy.........
