Average 2 heads a month is roughly £4.00..
If people are doing this for cost savings, well that's about the maximum you can save..
Edit to add: At the added risk of burning out £12.00 batteries I might add.

Actually nope cos I get through a head every 3 days (at least that's how long my first head lasted - and I washed it out). So if 2 heads cost 50p rewicking and I use 10 heads a month that's like £5 spent...as opposed to £20 .....worth saving on my budget Jane

I rewicked my stardust once a week not because I have to but because I want to and I enjoy it..
If you think it saves you money and you are doing it for that, to each his own.

I got a silica wick from a supplier on the AAEC list, thought that'll be fine. Built my first last night. Worked OK but tasted foul. Spent a while burning it and it's OK now.
But I suggest people boil whatever wick they buy.

What I do is to heat the wick in a clean gas flame (not a lighter) just before wrapping the coil, make sure your hands are clean when handlling the wick. The oils in your skin on the wick taste orrible!

I take your point about clean hands though - that could easily have been my problem.

Boling MAY cause the wick to unravel. If you do use a flame just hold it with a pair of pliers or tweezers, give it a blow to cool it. It will not burn.

So why are my heads yet again giving me an awful burnt taste. Even new heads straight out of the packet from Jason?
Sent from the outer reaches of space using a Samsung S3.

They do taste a bit "funky" for a while. You could try soaking them for a couple of hours in some hot water with a teaspoon of baking soda, rinse then dry and see if that helps. Try not to touch the wicks with your hands as the oils in your skin can taint the wicks.
