Wotsit, it could be that your like me & can't get away with 901 atties.
I have tried a few times & just don't like them. I much prefer 510 atties & I also use 100% vg from James.
Actually, I use regular 510s on my Rivatornado & LR 510s on my SD MKII & I find this works the best.
I'm not really a big fan of cartos to be honest & use them as a temporary measure or emergencies.
Personally, I find that I can use cartridges with blue foam filling fine & rarely need to resort to direct dripping. My atties generally have a relatively decent life aswell.
When I first use an attie, I blow out all the primer fluid, then screw it on to the battery and dry burn for a few seconds. Then I put about 3 drops onto the wick, add the cart which I've filled with about 10 drops of juice & puff on it as if I'm lighting a pipe. After a few puffs, the attie starts to work well without any burning taste or other issues.
I only really have two atties on rotate at anyone time, that way I can keep a better check on how they are working. I also blow them out every night before bed and place them upright on a piece of paper towel.
There is a bone of contention on blowing out atties, I always blow mine out via the open end & any juice comes out of the screw in end. I also make sure that the screw in bit of the battery is free of juice too by just running a cotton bud round it.
You also need sure you don't have any filling sticking to far above the cartridge as this will touch the attie and burn, which isn't nice.
Good luck & I hope you get sorted soon.

Oh just to add, atties are at the best when the element in the bottom glows. However, as long as they are getting hot, hyou should be ok.

It certainly sounds like you're flooding them Wot . . . if you're dripping it's a fine line between not putting enough juice in the drip tip and getting a burnt taste or being too heavy handed with the liquid. Just as an experiment, I wonder if it would be worth your while buying one of these atomisers from Toby www.ivapour.co.uk/510-low-resistance-atomiser-4.htmlThey're a really nice atomisers, not as much flavour as with a 901, but not so harsh as a standard LR510 . . . they don't come primed so you have to drip 3/4 drops into it, leave let that soak in, then use . . . if you don't do that part, the burnt taste will never be got rid of. Best used with a drip tip - I'm really enjoying this one.

Yep |I think I might be. I have been so concerned with not burning them that I may haveoverdone it a bit. Could too much juice also leave that horrid metally taste too that Im getting?

Wot, try washing the atty out, then starting again if you've got a nasty taste from it... get a pair of tongs to avoid burning yourself, then pour boiling water into it, filling it then letting it drain thro, do this several times, then let it cool a minute, then hold it over some kitchen towel and blow hard into the open end to get the water out... then connect to your battery and push the button for a second or 2, some people do it for longer, but a 2 sec push works for me then drip 3 drops into it and vape.....try just dripping 2 drops at a time till you get the hang of telling when you need to add more to avoid flooding it....you'll get there babe, it just takes a while to get it right

Brilliant, thanks. I will try that and see if it works. I dont know why Iam getting a nasty metal taste if I have been flooding the buggers. I doubt I have let them get too dry. I really want to get the hang of atties for the ease of trying out new flavours and I know its just me being a bit of a clutz as the whole vaping thing works really well.

I'm in London, far enough away to be saved the embarrassment of saying "I'm too shy too, and I'm a hermit anyway". scylla
