Kids and vaping

Hi I don't want to sound like the worst Mother in the world as I normally hide my Egos away well out of sight! But I walked in the bedroom the other day and my 10 year old was vaping away with a big smile on her face! I almost died in shock!

It was because of her constant reminders about the dangers of smoking that I finally quit! So to see her puffing away wasn't what I expected to see!

She looked at me and said mmmmmm coconut flavour, oh Mummy it's sooooo yummy!!!

Just wondered out of curiosity; has anyone ever had this experience and what is the youngest child that's ever picked up a vape?

The good thing is, I was getting almost equal gip for vaping as I was for smoking but now she thinks I'm cool and it's awesome! I just have to lock my vaping supplies up in future!

It was when she asked me to demo the condom method I lost it lol;-)

I hope you also lock up any medication or alcohol in your house if your child is prone to meddling with your stuff!

Seriously, I have an almost 9 year old daughter and both me and my wife vape. She knows they are not toys and that she must not touch them because they could poison her and even kill her.

I know that you can't keep an eye on them every second of the day, but at least drill it into there heads how dangerous an ecig and the liquids are!

I'm sorry if I seem to be having a go, (in a way I am) because even though they might be nowhere near as harmful as a cig for us, they could kill a child hence the reason for child safe bottle caps on ejuice.

This is something that, I think, will become a talking point in how or if vaping becomes accepted or unaccepted.

When we were young, speaking for myself here, smoking was 'cool'... who remembers the ad 'you're never alone with a Strand'? I still remember my first fag, in the bus shelter waiting for the school bus at age 11 or 12. I coughed & coughed, but thought, no I'll get used to this because it's what the adults do, so it must be OK.

I don't know the answer, but we do need to be careful & considerate in where we use them. It's one thing to get off the stinkies, but another to be seen to encourage another addiction to the young.

Gawd if that was me she wouldn't have had time to tell me how yummy it was before being unceremoniously hoofed out of my bedroom and told to bloody stay out of there and away from my stuff!! Nicotine is too bloody dangerous to be casual about in any way with kids.
I am going to have to drum that into my niece and nephews when I visit in April because they will be very curious about it all and my niece in particular has a habit of rummaging in my case and last year badly burnt herself on my hair straighteners after being warned to keep away from them!

You're taking it far calmer than I would if im being honest vapinglikecrazy!

My youngest is nearly 8 and knows my bedroom is out of bounds and so is everything in it. She also knows that even though it's not a cigarette, my EgoT is not a toy and is also out of bounds.

If she touched it, especially to vape on it, her bottom would be very very sore for a long length of time.

Thank god it was nic free.

It's only going to take something like this to go terribly wrong and we can all wave bye bye to vaping.

Let this be a reminder to us all who have children, (even if they just visit) pets or even anyone looking after someone with a mental disability.

Nicotine is a deadly poison, especially for children and pets. We must do EVERYTHING we can to keep it out of reach.

Fags and lighters were never left within reach of kids in my house, plus there is also the fact that tobacco tastes and smells foul, sweet flavoured ecig juice smells and tastes sweet

I hadn't quoted you boo , however you would be one of the few that did think imo , the majority of us left our fags and lighters / matches lying around .

With nic liquid we have to be even more aware when children are around , I'm fortunate in that my daughter is older and also vapes , that said if I hadn't left my fags lying around when she was younger , would she now be vaping

I did actually read the OP wrong, thought her child was in her bedroom vaping,not in the child's room.

Not sure whether I've got an exceptionally well behaved child then Storm, as mine clearly knows what she can fiddle and play with and what she can't.

She knows not to play with my vaping paraphernalia as much as she knew not to touch my fags when they were around. And like I said, if she did, the consequences would be dire. This is also about respect for others peoples property, as well as the dangers involved.

My kids are terrified of vaping, Ejuice and any paraphernalia. I told them it's poisonous and especially dangerous to children, that it would kill them if they touched it, and now they wont go near the stuff. They are only 8 and 9.

Hi All,
I don't have any children but when i am with them i treat vaping like when i smoked. If they are in a car or room then i don't vape because i wouldn't want to encourage them. (or get asked difficult questions)
With cigarettes they smell awful and taste worse but with vaping they smell and taste nice.
With young children and young teenagers, parents, adults and smokers don't allow them to smoke and discourage them not to smoke but what is the wrong and right thing to do if a 15 year old is hooked on smoking, would it be better to encourage them to vape instead????
I am lucky i wont be in this position but over the last month or so of vaping and seeing groups of teenager smoking in the street, it does cross my mind would it be better for their health to vape.
Very difficult.
My girlfriend read an article the other day which said that ecigs will be the next big thing for teenagers. They think its cool to do and not bad for them and its not smoking so who can stop them.
I wonder what will come of vaping or how it is perceived over the next few years. Will it be frowned upon in the future or excepted as a great way to pack up cigarettes and enjoyable thing to do in our spare time.
