This doesn't appeal to me at all, but the other day I accidentally saw how cheap some of the e-books are to download from Amazon, and just now I was watching a book prog where Richard Bacon showed off his Kindle (or was it an iPad with an e-book app on it? not sure), and I had a look on Amazon and stumbled across the fact that you can download Kindle e-book reader app to install on your PC free So of course I did. So I'm sitting here reading a pre-loaded copy of Pride & Prejudice Also included free are Treasure Island and Aesop's Fables - nice I suppose there's no copyright on them. As for reader-friendliness - I am less impressed, but then I do find it difficult to read any large body of text on-screen. I was telling SO about the cheap downloads and he scoffed and gave me a test to find a download of We by Yevgeny Zamyatin - and it's there @ £5.53. That shut him up Anyway, I thought I'd let y'all know about it because it could be such a cheap way of obtaining lots of books, if only you can cope with the medium www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_159198047_6?ie=UTF8&docId=1000425503&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1YVCD09YPXW3Y3N3M0E1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=231164587&pf_rd_i=468294#scylla

Thanks Scylla I'm the same as you though - I find it hard to read any large body of text on-screen.

I gave my sister a Kindle for Christmas. Not quite sure why I did so, given that she didn't even like the concept... I guess I just had to try to prove to her that 'Big sister' knows best sometimes. It would seem that I was absolutely correct... She carries it with her, reads it on the bus, train, whereever she goes. I would like to own one myself. So many classic novels that are free to download, and so hard to read with all that tiny print and flimsy pages... I'm pretty sure that I couldn't sit at my pc/laptop and read a book. The Kindle is really comfortable to read.. Lynda

I want one too, but i understand Argos has a different brand which is good at half the price apparently, with most available downloads free/much cheaper than for the Kindle, meant to check it out, but haven't as yet

I wouldn't be interested in one of the smaller screen ones, but let's hope they force the price of the Kindle down scylla

I'll have to wait then - but the older I get, the faster time flies I've been offered Onkyo surround sound for my b'day at the end of March, but I can't commit to it cos I don't know what to do with my existing scylla
