My personal thoughts, mod hat taken off for a moment!
the only way to make 100% sure that classified transactions were risk free for both buyer and seller would be to ban them!
again my personal thoughts
I would hate to see that happen!
still my personal, hopefully unbiased thoughts
This forum does really well in self moderating! Why make extra rules?

I get the odd little bargain in, it normally ends up as a good deal. Small quantities, if I didnt ask for PP gift, it would be more difficult to make it work. I would have to use recorded delivery and I would have to factor in Paypal`s cut. As I only ever buy stuff in numbers under 10, the transit costs per piece are high, DHL, etc. The way I do it at the moment is okay, I dont make a penny out of it but pass on a few bargains occasionaly. If I had to increase the cost to the member it wouldn`t be as attractive. The cost of posting single small items in the UK is wild at the moment. It adds about £3 to the cost of sending the item from me to the member. If the item costs anymore in total, it wouldnt be worth doing from the buyers point of view , the savings would be negligable.
it`s just a hobby for me, there really isnt any personal gain.

jeff, that is not direct from your bank account, it is via a Visa/Mastercard debit card both of which administer charges. When you pay for anything using these cards, the merchant has to pay a fee, the level of which is normal negotiated with the card providers. The likes of Amazon will pay a much lower fee than your local corner shop.

I had a small problem when I was in India for a holiday. I had sold an item on ebay before I left the UK that the purchaser never received. My proof of postage was back here in the UK. I had to issue a refund. Paypal wanted to charge me a fee of about 4% and as I have stated earlier, I begrudge paying Paypal a single penny if I can avoid it. I was able to set up a "linked" bank account over the internet, which took about a week to get up and running I think, and was able to refund the purchase price to the buyer without paying any fees. I now use that very account to pay any Paypal gift purchases and never need to pay Paypal a single penny, so this is for Paypal:- Tease-smiley

I've never been charged by Paypal for making any payments, either via the Visa debit cards or bank accounts I have linked with them.

I've never been charged by Paypal for making any payments, either via the Visa debit cards or bank accounts I have linked with them. Sorry for the repeat copy paste Chrissie but these are in the Paypal terms here:- www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/send-money-online about half way down the page next to the aeroplane. Free to transfer There’s no fee to send money to friends and family in the UK when you use your linked bank account or the money in your PayPal account. When you use a debit or credit card, there is a flat fee of 3.4% + 20p per transaction. Having said that, I do not have a linked debit card with them, so perhaps once linked, it is treated the same as a linked bank account ie. no fees Or they may well have moved the goal posts

Personally I like it the way it is and I agree with greigster - I'd rather not pay any fees to PayPal if it can be avoided. In the end it is all about trust. If you don't trust someone, don't deal with them. I suppose there could be a long standing member who is waiting to pounce - if you see anybody putting up 50 Kayfuns for sale be suspicious The only fly in the ointment is the possibility of something getting lost in the post and for anything worth more than £46 you now have to use special delivery to be able to claim more than that in compensation.

If i've had dealings with the Seller before i've often sent the money via PPG without prompting - whichever forum i'm on, without any problems thus far. I have on occasion occurred a PP charge in doing so from me debit card tho

A useful thing at the post office is PROOF OF DISPATCH. If you send anything without requiring a signature at the other end, you can ask for proof of dispatch. It is a pre printed little receipt that at least gives proof that you sent the item. It comes with the postcode that the individual package was sent to and the house number on it, with time and date. A useful thing if a dispute should start. I just used it today to send a few items. Costs NOWT ;-)

It`s the first time I have used it after trawling through the RM site, it`s a handy feature and "must do" thing when sending stuff that you have been paid for but want to keep the costs down

Well i had to send a shirt back to Fred Perry today that is faulty and the post office clerk told me first class signed for doesn't really insure you sufficiently for , well not for much at all really, he said if they lose an item sent this way all RM will do is give you two books of first class stamps worth about £14. The only way to properly insure so you get the money back is to use next day signed for , that is news to me but you all might have known this anyway , something to consider for buyer and seller though
