I notice a lot in the Classies when people are selling stuff that thy ask for payment by Paypal Gift. TBF I don't think we should do this when selling stuff and i'll explain why. I know we are all mates and we trust each other etc, but if you pay via gift and your stuff doesn't turn up, YOU HAVE NO COMEBACK. You can't go to Paypal and try and get your money refunded, it will simply be gone.
I do think Chrissie should change forum rules to stop us using the PP gift option.

No abuse Mp but I'm going to move this to 'forum help and suggestions' as I think that's the best place for this discussion

I don't think there should be a ruling against PPG, the buyer could still pay normally through paypal and adjust the cost to cover the paypal costs. Not sure if the classies have a clear guide already tbh but if not a nice clear guise could be made with all info.

that was more or less what I meant Karma, I wasn't sure if there already was one or not. On the paypal gift section of that page it could include instructions about paying normally and adding extra to cover paypal costs if you want to cover your own ass.

I do understand the concerns, but I can think of only one slight problem in the time I've been here! Once the mods and other members got involved it was soon sorted!

It seems to me that in point 4. of the classifieds rules it reminds people about the danger of "gifting". I did not actually know this, so your post/thread is gratefully read.
In the early days of ebay and paypal, I remember someone advising me to take every precaution buying and selling items. It's served me well over the years in both directions. I guess it's up to people to decide for themselves. Now I have read your post, I would probably not use PPG for any item with an expense over a few quid. I guess it could only be made a forum rule if it was felt necessary.
I'm glad you posted.

It would be a real pity if two people fell out and a Paypal dispute started, probably mean that in order to cover themselves, sellers would have to use recorded delivery service for everything instead of a few stamps for a small item. Of course prices would increase as well, just my thoughts on it, not decided one way or the other We are all friends here You could of course allow either option, then if you dont like using PP gift, you dont have to buy.

Hi All.
To eliminate possible problems, just use normal paypal not `gift` but add 4% to your selling price prior to posting, this will cover all paypal charges, but will give you the safeguards afforded by paypal.
This is the easiest and safest method I have found when using eBay and other sites.
Hope this makes sense to you.

The benefit of Paypal Gift gives you the option which allows the payer can pay the price asked and the payee receives the price asked and Paypal makes not a bean Turn the Ops post around and it ends up that someone could buy an item, receive it and enter a Papal dispute to have their money refunded. I always pay by Paypal Gift when requested and I don't have a problem with that. Why would you want to fix something when it is not broken, you are better off putting your time to better use like Vaping

I think it's a question of using your commonsense, especially if it's a high value item and you have concerns. If you do, then pay PP fees to have the extra cover that gives. Personally, I wouldn't want to see our Classifieds ' over regulated ' we've always operated on a mutual trust level on this forum, which has served very well in the years I've been a Member. Sure, there will always be exceptions to the honesty rule . . . but we do all keep an eye out for each other don't we?
