Wasps try to kill you for no reason, so a lucky escape there....was it an electric trimmer ? That may have sent them wild if you`d really ripped into it.

That was a close shave Ron! Thank goodness you didn't disturb them. Amazing photographs Saphire . . . the nest looks like something you'd find on an exotic sea bed, beautiful in a way.

Perpetua did you press on the other photos there is one with a dead wasp emerging. I took loads of photos I wanted the roofers to bring down as much as possible but it just crumbled, I still have some of the centre core in the greenhouse.

I'm just so pleased I've never came across one of those My spare bedroom did, the loft opening was in there, the wind must have lifted it. I went to do some sewing and when I opened the door there was thousands of wasps flying around it was frightening. We had to throw a wasp killer into room and leave it for a week before entering, we sealed the loft trap with duck tape and hoovered up all the dead bodies they were everywhere. Because it was autumn we were told to leave them as they would die anyway but we did put smoke bombs in the loft to make sure. We only saw the size of the nest when the roof was done in the January, even the roofers said they had never seen one so big, it was fascinating and frightening all at the same time. Wasps are not nice, you aggravate them and they have no mercy, Ron you came very close to annoying them you were very lucky.

Before I started wiping bottoms for a living I was a pikey. When scrapping a caravan one spring I was inside pulling the roof panels off when the air became alive with a buzzing noise. Half a small static caravan roof. FULL!!! Scared the hells out of me when the roof came down. Awesome things mind.
Regards Jez

We had a wasps nest in our garden one year. It did not bother us so we left it and the next year the wasps came back and built another nest in the same place. Apparently they return to the same spot to rebuild their nests or so I was told. I find wasp nests quite fascinating.
