If I'm not careful I'll get on my soap box about manners in general Dolly . . . there's a distinct lack on occasions in today's modern life it seems. As my Father is fond of saying, manners maketh a man and cost nothing. Mind you, my parents won't even have an ansaphone . . . let alone a mobile, I gave them one of my old mobiles with a PAYG sim card in it for emergencies. Mother used the credit up in one call and then they were both horrified at the ' top up ' cost so never bothered. I haven't tried again. Oh go on. Get on your soap box it's good for you! My gran who adopted me, used to say the exact same thing as your dad, and god help me and my sister if we ever forgot our manners as children Lol . . . I've got to go to work again shortly Dolly, so it's probably best if I keep my blood pressure under control. For now anyway.

I think it's probably a generation thing, the only reason I have a mobile is if I'm in trouble while out, or friends and family need to get in touch in an emergency. I do not use it just for chatting or wasting time on the apps... in fact my contract on my smartphone runs out this month and will not be renewing. I'll just get a cheap pay as you go, don't need any of the bells and whistles.
What really winds me up are those that actually start a call as they come into the store, as if to tell everyone they are soooo important! I want to puke. Also the times I've watched as people ring their families while browsing the aisles, asking 'do you want raspberry or strawberry jam?' then doing the same in the next aisle... WTH is that all about? ???

I use PAYG. Look at Giffgaff when your contract runs out. Very good service and incredibly cheap. I never pay more than £7.50 per month.

Yes Dolly, I looked at them 2 years ago, but went for the bells & whistles for £35 a month, and probably use less than 5% of the allocated time, texts, internet etc. Will look at them again. Then add my phone savings to my vaping savings

The great thing is about them that all our family use them and every call made to another Giffgaff phone is free so I rarely ever use my credit either. When the end of the month is approaching I use my mobile to call everyone for everything just to use it up.

Brilliant video... if they only realised that's how stupid they look to the majority of people. I guess we all grow up sooner or later.

I clobbered DS over the head when talking to a teacher at his parents night and DS started texting Although teachers aren't meant to condone violence towards young people I'm sure this one understood my reasoning, he certainly didn't report the incident He probably secretly wished more parents clobbered their teenagers for lack of manners

What I would like to know is are we all deaf??? Those that walk about chatting on mobiles shout loud enough for the whole street to hear. I am not elderly, but neither am I a 20 something anymore. I have a mobile, I have had it for 8 years. It makes calls and texts, and does other things i.e camera/ radio should you wish. I top it up with £10 every 3/4 month. It is what it is meant to be. A way of contacting someone, or been contacted in an emergency or when really important. I was in the post office today, lady at counter in her 40's handed over a piece of paper then took a call on her mobile and was still on it 15 minutes later, whilst I was still stood waiting, and the cashier was stood twiddling her thumbs. Ignorant cow was the sentence that sprung to mind , but I'm used to that living where I do so I keep it to myself.

I hate the whole 'being on my mobile is more important' thing. I always wonder how these people would react if the cashier pulled out their phone, and started saying things along the lines of 'yeah, the ignorant bugger is just standing there on his phone' etc. It's common courtesy to speak/listen to the person serving you! As far as the generation thing, I'm 28 and totally love my iphone so wouldn't class myself as an 'older' generation and definitely in touch with new technology but common courtesy should prevail regardless of age! I love this sign someone put up in a coffee shop:
