It's definitely a finger.

Hey Jerri, that really is quite bizarre, if you want to send me a copy of the original I shall have a go at removing it for you, I'm no expert on photoshop and its in quite an awkward place but I'd be happy to give it a good go for you. Let me know

I'm with Perpetua on that. It looks like the arm of the chair and her fleece/coat is partially covering it.

No. The chair wasn't that tall and had a rounded back there was no part of it that stuck out like that (we go there often so I remember the chairs). And the top she had on was blue so not something pink.
It looks like a finger to me. But as I said, I'm an open minded sceptic. I am looking for a logical explanation. So please don't think I'm just saying no to everyone's ideas. I'm just answering honestly.

I thought that at first. But my mum had two frozen shoulders so had to use both hands to hold the babs because her arms were very weak. And she never wore nail varnish lol.
It could be some strange glitch that moved her finger from a different photo or something and made it look strange lol.

I think someone is winding you up mate, I work with photoshop a lot and after inspecting the pic it certainly looks like someone's added the finger afterwards to me and tried to make it look natural. Also the shadow doesn't look natural on the finger and onto the babys leg as if that as been added too. I am guessing they were trying to make it look like it was coming out of her pocket.

Genuinely. I took the photo myself. I have zero photoshop knowledge.
I used an iPhone 4s. I spotted it myself and nobody else had access to it besides me. To be able to photo shop it.
I give you my word it wasn't photoshopped.
I'm thinking its some glitch or something. The figure doesn't look natural, but then if its a glitch it isn't natural. And if its not. It's certainly not natural lol.

Right. Sorry it wasn't up earlier. Doing this on my mobile so hope it's not too big. I've cropped the kids out from the left of the photo but other than that its exactly as it was when taken. Was your mother in the habit of carrying some small snacks around for those odd moments when a nibble might appeal? I'm thinking of pocket-sized salami or a whole range of German or Italian sausages, one of which might have slipped out place, given the movement of holding the baby. Chorizo?
