Haven't really got a clue what it is about (shame on me  ), but appreciate that today - July 4th - is a celebration day for you across the water. Is this 'Thanksgiving'? - complete with Turkey and family gatherings? Whatever it is - hope you have a good one.  |

Thanks everyone, yes we have been waving the flags and shooting off fireworks all weekend. The 4th of July, or Independence Day is the day that the 13 American colonies declared their Independence from England or more specifically from King George III. We did not kick your butts, as we had friends in Britain, who were pressing King George to let us go our own way. He finally relented and that's how we became a separate country. The tragedy about it all, is that there was fighting and a lot of good people died on both sides of the conflict. We were young and confused and thought that our friends were our enemies and our enemies were our friends. Please forgive us. |

Happy Independance Day! I can see why you'd want to be free and stand on your own two feet but I guess you're regretting it now though. After all, what have you really achieved without British Rule? By the way, Mel Gibson's movie "The Patriot" was very loosely based on Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) and Banastre Tarleton. Both of them survived the war. The American dislike of Tarleton, was because he didn't take prisoners, he killed wounded American soldiers and prisoners. He is known as "Bloody Tarleton", over here.
We know that the British DID NOT herd colonials into churches and then set them on fire. I just wanted to clear that up, because I understand that you fine people were rightly upset about that scene.
