Finally something positive. I bet they gave the people in the study cig-a-likes, I am sure the numbers would have been much higher with a better bit of kit

I'm not sure on one hand it is very positive, but we all know how much vaping is better than patches, and the Lancet is a medical journal comparing e-cigs to a medical products, so could this be used as more leverage to have them classed as 'medicinal'?

Of course everyone on here all know from first hand experience they are are effective if not better than conventional NRT but unfortunately this article may lead people to believe E cigs pose no risk to health, as it says in the article - "However, he did call for longer-term studies into the consequences of using the devices." so the report doesn't tell us anything we don't already know really. I'm not sure whats positive about this. If the study concluded that e-cigs have absolutely Zero health risks then i would be shouting "Yipee" etc etc.
The reason i might sound so negative about this is im not one of those standard thread replies you see all over the net "i smoked 30 a day for 30 years untill...." Infact i only smoked for 2 months after a 10 year quit and now i'm having issues getting off the e-cig and i worry stupid about putting this in my lungs.
Thanks.

To be honest I'm not sure anything we do is completely safe to our health. Even drinking coffee and other things we eat has been linked to cancer. Driving a car is very unsafe and even crossing a road has to be done with some care. For me, a significant reduced risk is all I want and so far the results have all been positive. If you wish to cut down on the risks even further it looks like unflavoured e-juice is probably as safe as it can get until more is known.

On the food front apparently tomato ketchup is anti cancerous and bacon is cancerous so if you have a bacon sarny with ketchup does this counteract it haha

Tried the patches years ago,and the only way they're effective is to put it over your mouth

I agree Karma, I nipped to the doctor last week and while I was there told them my great news about no longer smoking. The practise nurse said brilliant, and that they will be issued as NRT soon (in her opinion). I smiled to be polite but thought pants! Surely that's not what vapers want.

Sorry mate, but frankly you have no idea what you are talking about! I suggest you to try the patches... geedouble has no need for patches as he has posted on the quitting nicotine thread and is using a NRT cig (can't remember the name of it) I wish him well as it must be a horrible feeling after having ten years of nothing being inhaled into his lungs and then suddenly finding himself back to doing it, I'm sure I'd feel the same if I was in his position too. Sadly I have not had oxygen only filled lungs for 30 years so I can only guess that's how he must feel. I must point out I am happy to continue inhaling vapor into my lungs, I'll take my chances but can also understand it might worry some people.
