Ah but I did say at this stage in their career, Rio's legs have gone and Vidic would have been offered a new contract if he was still up to performing in the Premiership week in, week out.

Great post BrenD - I think Lukaku is an impossibility too. We desperately need full backs, although I take your point about Naughton as backup we could do with a utility player to cover rb and cb, maybe Fryers will develop into this. I liked him at cb the other week, thought he did well.

Ironically, before his knee injury Kaboul was a decent backup at rb - great defensively, but he had pace and technique as well. Before his injury I thought he was going to develop into one of the best cbs in the league, but now I'm not too sure. In fact I believe he's out of contract in the summer, and it don't think the club have offered him an extension. I guess they don't want another Ledley King situation.

Left back has to be our priority - we have no one up to scratch in this position. Walker has also had little pressure on his position, and he's responsible for a number of defensive errors. This side of his game has to improve, but then again our whole defense has been less than stellar this season.

Serie A is a completely different league to the Premier League, a lot slower.  Vidic will be fine for a year or two at Inter, well league wise anyway, but might get found out a bit in the CL.  Look at the age Maldini was when he finally retired, he'd have gone a few years earlier had he spent his entire career in England.

edit: Well I say CL, he could quite easily find himself playing in the Europa.  Still in Europe, though.  More than United would be able to offer him.

I think they'll offer Kaboul a new deal, or rather I hope they offer him a new deal.  He has looked good when he has played recently and a lot less fragile than Ledley was.  If he is capable of playing two games in a week, but not four or five in a 14-15 day period as appears to be the case at the moment, he is still of use to us.  I think we'll see him start every match for the rest of the season now that we have a decent gap between each game.

We'd have to spend a fair amount of money to get anyone as good, money that we need to spend on other positions.

Messy enough for me to switch 5Live off, step away from facebook, close the tabs for the BBC Sport site/the Spurs forum I lurk on and give t'internet, AAE-C aside, a wide berth for the rest of the day. I never thought I'd see the day I had everything crossed for Man City to win anything, let alone the league. But it has to happen. I don't want to think about what it would be like to see the goons win it again (I should be safe!), Chavski winning wouldn't be at all fun and the Liverpool fans I know are only marginally less irritating than most Chavski fans.

Oh well, at least we won't be in the Europa next season when we finish in 7th and look at what that has done for our league position in recent years and how well it has served Liverpool this season. Come on van Gaal, we really need you to sort us out...

BrenD - I watched it all, why I do not know. Liverpool looked fantastic, but we certainly helped them out as much as possible.

Played 8, Won 0, Drawn 1, Lost 7. For 2, Against 27.

With form like that against the top 4, we deserve to be exactly where we are. It wouldn't look brilliant had either of the games against the scum gone our way, which they could have done. This season is definitely one to forget
