I take your point on board Raffles about getting people to understand 100%, but its difficult when people won't listen or are just plain ignorant and don't want to understand.
And Bluefish I ain't RAMBO but I don't suffer fools gladly and I don't have much time for idiots either and sergeant security filled the criteria on both counts today.

Some people have a personality change when they put on a uniform, some people with a personality issue get a job that requires a uniform. As he was the first to use a profanity I suspect he falls into one of these categories. Good luck in court.

What an excellent first post to read on this forum I would have loved to seen his face. Had a similar experience at Dalaman airport in Turkey sadly the guy balling me out had a machine gun, he was very confused when I just put my zmax into my pocket.

striker you have my total sympathy and best wishes for any court case that may happen after this - if you do get one, give the barstewards hell and make the idiots understand. As for the attitude of the plod, they wonder why they are losing the respect of the general public when they display attitudes such as that - utterly despicable

All the best with the courts, I suspect they'll ignore the vaping thing and just do you for kicking the jobsworth security gaurds arse. Personally I would say the jumped up failed policeman deserved everything he got, if he got (or attempted) violent with someone who was being totally reasonable and not a threat then the justice of it all please me very much I think he'll maybe start using his brains a little more in future before he starts the physical abuse so you've done the world a favour!

Striker I have never had any such problems with anyone in a position of authority with regards to vaping. As others have said, you had the misfortune to run into what is commonly known in technical terms as 'a complete arsehole'.
It could have been worse for him though. Karate champion you may be, but if he had done the same to me after I had come out of the cinema just having seen Bruce Lee in Fist Of Fury I would have immediately mimicked deadly martial arts force and let's just say he would not be swearing at any vapers any time soon.
Yes, between you and me, he got off lightly my friend. I must away, I need to meditate for a bit....

Good luck in court Striker, really sorry to hear about your incident today as much as I'm disappointed in the attitude of your local police. They're certainly not all like that, we have at least one enlightened vaping policeman on the forum . . . wish there were more like him.

I don't think it's fair to make it an issue related to security guards or the police. You could go all your life and have no problems with either. Striker just had the bad luck to run into a few bad apples on the same day. It totally sucks but is in no way typical of either profession IMO.

Nope you didn't, I realised straight after I posted that you might think it was aimed at you. I should have made it a reply to the thread but because you mentioned the vaping policeman I just replied to you. No offence meant at all, sorry.

I doubt if the security guard has the right to attack you, even if you were actually smoking. If your response to his attempt to manhandle you wasn't excessive, I doubt if the CPS will proceed. On the other hand if he claims you gave him whiplash or something, you may have a problem.
I guess cops like to support security guards, some of whom are ex-cops. They were probably just trying to make life difficult for you.
I don't know how it works in Scotland, but I doubt if they had the right to take your mvp & protank unless they had reason to believe you were taking drugs (slurred speech or whatever). I'd write to the Police Complaints Commission about that. Won't do you any good, but might make them think twice next time.

I think that was a general police response, security guard was obviously an arse and got what he deserved, if he'd asked him to move or had some sort of discussion the outcome may well have been sorted amicably, but to use force first will always, always end up in the worst case scenario.

Sorry to hear of your problems. It might also be worth getting in touch with some of the local papers if you want to make a big thing out of it. I would have loved to see the look on his face! Sounds like you could even have a case for assault as you were doing nothing wrong if you wanted to counter sue.

Second this, not sure how the law stands in Scotland, but surely if there was no provocation on striker42 s part, then the use of force by the individual in question could indeed be construed as assault. In this case, then your actions were in self defence. Ditto the local media and just for good measure the managment of the shopping centre could possible be requested to review their security protocols. (as the assault took place on their property by a member of their staff)
