I am really confused because I received the replacement base over the holidays but I am sure it looks the same as the original one they sent. I do not really want to scratch it. Is there any other way to tell if it is chrome plated? ??? Is it possible to check it with a magnet it suppose if it's good SS it won't get with the magnet

I don't know where time is going at the moment. I scratched the original base and it looks like I received a stainless steel one in the first place. No wonder they looked the same. Edited to add: neither of mine looks plated. They look ss to me but then I'm no expert.

kailey and melitahams ... my replacement deck has just been delivered and it is stainless steel including the deck screws (I checked with a magnet Melita ... great tip that). I have also ordered a second Taifun GT from Fasttech but it isn't due to ship until the 31st so I probable won't get it until the end of February.

Yep, I tried the magnet tip too and both of them past the test. That's why I had to try the scratch test afterwards. I am loving the taifun too. I haven't set it up as a spheroid yet as I am happy with the regular way of building it. I love the capacity of it and how easy it is to refill.

It is probably the easiest to build and refill of all the rba's that I have ... although the Squape clone that I bought this week is joint first now that I think about it. The only thing with the squape clone is that it comes with a pyrex tank inside rather than the PMMA of the original and it is not an airtight fit ... I have found that once the juice gets down below half full, air leaks in through the "ship's cabin style" windows and the vacuum is lost, resulting in leaking ... I have ordered the full steel tank replacement from C9V and in the meantime I have sealed the pyrex inner tank with silicon which seems to have done the trick. I ain't too sure about the safety aspect of eliquid and silicon but it will suffice until the full stainless steel tank arrives.

Still thinking whether I get it from FT or from VB thinkingsmileyThe only issue I still have with the Taifun is the condensation in the dip tip when using cotton. Guess I'm not making much cotton . I guess I will try to coil with a 2.5 mm drill bit next time.

I have an original Squape but I still prefer the tailfun. I am having a few problems with leaking with the Squape. Build quality is excellent as is taste and flavour. It's probably user error as I haven't had much time to play with it but it seems to be more temperamental at the moment than the taifun for me. If I could get over my fear of micro-coiling I would try it with some cotton wool.

melitahams I have ordered mine from Fasttech but they are quoting ships in 10 days. Vapour Break have it in stock now but it is dearer and you will be paying for postage. I have my micro coil around a 2mm drill bit and I have no problems with leaking or condensation ... I can't understand why you are having this problem. I have heard others are using cotton thread/cord so it should be OK ... let us know how it performs. kailey with a micro coil and cotton build I have no leaking problem with the Squape clone until it loses vacuum when the juice reaches below half full ... can it be that the original with the PMMA inner tank is also not completely airtight? The full stainless steel tank from C9V costs around £22 delivered and should be airtight ... I will let you know how it performs when I get it on Monday or Tuesday.

@freefromsmoking I did tried it but it tasted a little different maybe I have to boil it more with salt as what I have is a bit old but it vaped quite well and produce good clouds only the taste but not that weird maybe I was just a bit afraid. I did made a new coil now using a bit bigger than the 2 mm bit till now its ok will'll see if it continues better, guess or I was putting too much cotton or I'm placing the coil to up or too down? right now its parallel with the screws does this make any difference?

melitahams, @freefromsmoking, kailey, Hi, would any of you be interested in selling me one of your redundant bases at all? I'm not bothered if it's plated brass or otherwise, it's just that on mine one of the deck screws is stuck fast in the post and the other I unscrewed to far and can't get the blimmin in thing back in again! Senior moment, and I'm only forty four! Thanks

Senior moment, and I'm only forty four! Thanks Sorry mate ... I stripped my old base down to have the deck screws, 510 pin and O rings as spares and dumped the remainder in the bin. Even if I could find the base at the bottom of the wheelie bin, I doubt that it could all be reassembled ... From what I have read on the Fasttech forum there is a barrel shaped component inside the deck with 3 holes into which the deck screws and 510 pin are located and if you remove both deck screws and the 510 pin all at the same time the barrel is free to move about and it is almost impossible to get it back into position and the 3 screws reinserted. If Kailey can't help it might be an idea to post a wanted thread in the classies as someone must have a spare, complete, chromed brass deck
