So very very sad What a legend...that word is used lightly too many times, but it's a word that's fitting for Nelson Mandela. He changed so many lives and gave a future to so many people. RIP MR MANDELA, sympathies to all his family and fellow South Africans. |

I truly feel that his story and his life, should be told to every child in school and held up as the morals, ethics and decency we should ALL aspire to, and break away from the me, me, me, generation.

Nelson Mandela 'Madiba'... just the name brings a smile to your face... seeing his mischievous grin.
Beautiful South Africa, like all other countries, still has many problems... but nothing compared to if he hadn't been there.
RIP Nelson Mandela... you gave hope and strength to so many. Let it not be in vain.

Whilst I agree with everything that has been said so far, there is some interesting food for thought here. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years on Robben Island as a terrorist, having led a bombing campaign against government targets in 1961. The difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter often depends on which side of the fence you sit.
Since his release, there is no denying that he worked wonders for his people, his country and the world at large.

Sat here in tears, even the news readers voice is breaking on bbc, so many people have never known him, never met him, but will be grieving for him tonight...what a man to have touched so many people. RIP Totally agree OneDay... which is why I don't think there will be ever be real peace in this world. There will always be people with opposing objectives. I just think that on this occasion in world affairs, Nelson Mandela was on the 'right' side. |

Hero,Great,Inspirational are among a few words used far too easily these days (and probably always have been) .
Nelson Mandela has been a hero of both myself and others since first hearing the special AKA sing for his freedom and the dignity and leadership he has shown is a true inspiration to millions.
