Third day without power looming , we're one of 4 houses out of 14 in our close that have been without power since Monday night , completely random which house lost power & we're one of the unlucky ones.....I can't tell you how annoying it is to see all the xmas lights flashing away while we're eating by candle light ......next door have kindly let us run an extension cable from their conservatory today so the kids could watch telly though

Terrible luck greendollar but very sporting of your neighbour.
The reason only 4 houses in your close are without power is probably down to the fact that there are 3 phases (live wires) that run from your local sub-station & it's pot luck which one of those phases each property is connected to, most likely only one of those phases is damaged, the one the 4 of you share.
In rural locations with overhead lines on older installations you will see 4 wires, 1 neutral & 3 phases.
Not much consolation & hope you're reconnected soon but at least you know why it's just a few of you in your close.

Not what you want at Christmas, makes life difficult, but I hope you still had a good time & thank goodness for great neighbours.

Just got word that we may be looking at a further 3 days before we get our power switched back on , novelty definitely worn off now but we're lucky we've got good neighbours a gas cooker & open fire ...pinched the extension lead whilst the kids are next door having a bath , at least they think it's great fun

Feel for you greendollar it must be horrible. Good neighbours are priceless, far more important than what sort of house we live in. Hope it gets sorted soon.

That's awful that they have said it could be another 3 days before they fix it

I really do feel for you greendollar just as well you have a gas cooker and an open fire! I had a 'spate' of power cuts, roughly every 2nd day for over a month a couple of years ago, luckily it was always 'fixed' within about 5 hours, but even our gas central heating needs electricity to run. Like you it was just random, sometimes it would effect other houses but normally just mine It was something to do with an underground cable that kept tripping the fuse at the sub power station and until they cable totally blew they couldn't figure out where to dig the road up about. You do start off thinking it's a bit of a lark, light some pretty candles, read by torchlight, send out for takeaway but it does become very wearing. Must be awful with the kids off school! they get you sorted soon, hopefully 3 more days is a very worst case senario x

That's awful that they have said it could be another 3 days before they fix it It's just what we've heard through the grapevine , it was supposed to be fixed today but the automated messages just say they're working on it . We have noticed over the last couple of years that the length of time to get the power up and running after a power cut is getting longer but waiting this long is a joke , especially over Xmas .
