NR = No resistance (does not get hot) RES = Resistance (gets hot) So the "legs" of the coil don't get hot just the coil part does.

Just ordered my first premade coils from fasttech went for just the coils as I want to try cotton but I did pop one of these www.fasttech.com/products/1411/10006334/1503505 atomiser resistance tester in my basket less than £7.00 so I thought better safe than sorry. I have an itaste vv/vw though so I could check with that but I preferred not to take a chance

I was thinking if I get an mvp, I can check with that - is that not a good idea?

Sams
I'm not trying to pour water on the parade and I'm sure your coiling skills will be better than mine but I will warn you even with the premade coils from FT (I've still got some left - pm me if you want them, I'm never going to use them) recoiling a evod/protank head is fiddly and can be a frustrating experience - I could never stop them from tasting burnt and I lack the patience to get it right. I am rubbish at this kind of thing but it isn't easy - well not as easy as I hoped it would be anyway....
You clearly have a lot more sensitive tastebuds than me as an evod coil would last me weeks if treated right and cleaned and dry burned regularly but the Aspire heads even when they've been used for a week taste massively better than evod heads even when new.
Okay its not a moneysaving option as they are more expensive than evod/protanks heads but really they are just soooooooooo much better.
But as far as testing resistance goes - if you get a mod that displays resistance like an MVP you can use that to test the coil before you vape it preventing any short worries.

Now I'm confused, the ones that were recommended earlier in this thread have just 1 wick but you're now saying to use the 4 wick ones. I get what you are saying about the res and no res, but will the 4 wick ones fit easy enough into the coil head? Surely it's got to be harder to get 4 strands of wick in that little space than 1 strand Jeeze sammy and I must sound like total dumb dicks here Edit: Just found some NR-R-NR 1 wick ones - so would these be better to get than the 4 wick ones? www.fasttech.com/products/0/10007197/1593911-pre-coiled-welded-wires-w-wicks-nr-r-nr-50-pack

I was thinking if I get an mvp, I can check with that - is that not a good idea? It's just my opinion . . . but I think it's essential to have some means of checking resistance, if you want to recoil Sammy. I prefer 4 wicks for some things and 1 wick for others Toots . . . in all honesty they're reasonable enough to pick up a selection on FT. I'd also buy a rebuildable dripper of some sort - if you haven't one already. It's a good way of practicing coiling and useful for testing new flavours. Lots of lovely space to work in, with the Igo L . . . . www.fasttech.com/products/0/10005100/1400500-igo-l-rebuildable-stainless-steel-dripping

Does anyone know of a good place for buying replacement grommets to fit the protank build?

Unless you short them or rip them... I have done both. To be honest it's just as cheap to buy a new pack of heads and be done with it. That video from sarah is excellent at getting to grips with newbie rewicking. I'm now on microcoils (completely different world)

I think I'll go with simplicity first time round - don't want to be put off by having to fiddle around with maybe having to remove a wick or 2 and find myself with problems. Simplicity first, get the hang of it, then move on to more complex possibilities
