Awww, my cat is called Poppet as well. She was a domestic cat that got thrown out with the wild cats when her owners moved away and I took her in when I saw her on our garden wall. Don't think she was treated very well by previous owners, she was so nervous for several months, but now she is so loving and she sleeps on the bed curled up next to me now. Sometimes we call her Pops for short, but her name really is Poppet. Hope you find some good homes for your cats. My Poppet is the one I worry about the most. Because she was the smallest, I gave her a lot of extra attention as a kitten. I would push the others out of the way so she got fed by Minky. I also used to stick her down my bra to keep warm as all the others would squeeze together in a ball and she couldn't get in. It's turned her into a right soppy softie. Awww, she definitely needs to find a good loving home then, not that the others don't, but she needs someone special to take care of her (in the manner she has become accustomed to with you)

Everything crossed Blownupdolly. I've taken on 'pre-owned' cats in the past and, contrary to common opinion, they have become loving (and now much missed) companions. In the right home, they will thrive and enhance the life of their new servant keeper. The only problem with cats is that they don't live forever. I know. People seem to get the wrong impression about animals that need adopting. Look at me and my circumstances. Not a single thing wrong, or personality problems with any of them. I am just not allowed to have pets in sheltered accommodation.

Another vote for Cats Protection here - I got my two kittens through them, and although the set up may be different in different areas, the cats were kept with fosterers in houses as pets until they were homed. No cages in sight, just nice big houses to run around in.
I have contacts for the Eltham branch if you need them, although I'm sure there's one closer to you, but I keep in contact with them every week as the ladies running it were so lovely and loving towards the animals in their care.

I know of three charities near here. To be honest I just can't bring myself to phone the, but it's got to the point now, that I have no choice.

Blownupdolly My last three cats all came from Cats Protection League as adults - I had one very special ginger tom who had a brain injury after a fight with a lorry so needed considerable rehab; I thought he needed to relearn from scratch so adopted a young female (ex-feral) who had kittens from her first season and was very tiny, but a feisty little madam. That worked well and CPL persuaded me to take on another young lady who was difficult to home as she was a little 'odd' (she had been a very pampered pet until she got pregnant and was then thrown out - no wonder she was 'odd'). Those three cats gave me so much love, Woody eventually gave in to a bladder infection in his old age but my two girls both had cancer and died within two months of each other (they were very close but that was ridiculous). I wasn't ever going to have another cat but couldn't cope with a feline free environment! I took on a kitten as I wanted to ensure the best possible start (not being sure whether dodgy start contributed to cancer) then another because two cats are better than one!! Adult cats can adapt very well to a change in circumstances as long as they are loved and wanted. CPL, in my experience, are very picky about where their charges are placed. They try very hard to match cat to person so I'm sure the cats will be fine - it won't be so easy for you, though

I think it is so wrong that they don't allow you to have pets in the sheltered accommodation It must be heart breaking for you or anyone else to have to part with your furry friends I wish I could help Blownupdolly but apart from being too far away, I already have 7 cats.

It makes me feel more hopeful that they will go to a loving home.

Yes, I should add that I'd take them in a heartbeat (mrs ionian's a real softy when it comes to kitties, I have to stop her adopting all the new kittens that appear on the CPL Facebook page) if it wasn't for the two we already have plus a baby on the way in a couple of months - it wouldn't be fair, they just wouldn't get the attention they deserve. I love my cats an un fathomable amount, so I understand how hard it must be for you to have to find a new home for them, and I really feel for you

I think seven is more than enough for you Chrissie. Yes, I am heartbroken. All three are in the room with me now. George in his usual spot, lying half under my arm and half lying on the arm of my chair. I got sent a lovely hamper from my sister in law in New Zealand. Poppet has "stolen" the wicker box it came in as her bed and is curled up inside. Minky?...well, as per usual she is sitting on top of the cabinet right in front of the TV screen so that we HAVE to watch her and not the news!! I feel like welling up just looking at them.

We are on the first floor. Unless they work out how to use a lift they are stumped LOL! George is that lazy, he would merely lie next to it and wait for someone to come carry him home.

((( Blownupdolly )))) My friends granddaughter came to visit my furry friends today. She is extremely ill & also in a wheelchair. It made her day to be mugged by them all (well apart from Kiki who is very shy with people she doesn't know). I just wish that more folks realised how much the love & companionship of a furry friend means to people, especially those in ill health.

It's bad enough for me with a husband, kids and grandchildren in my life. Can you imagine the grief and heartache it must be for some old lady or man all alone in the world and all they have is their pet? I think it's an awful thing to do. I agree new pets shouldn't be allowed but old ones as long as they are well behaved should be accepted.

My MIL ( ish ) lives in her own bought flat and there they are not allowed pets, but if you already have one when you move in you can keep it, but not replace it when anything happens.. A friend of hers lives in a sheltered housing bungalow and they have 2 dogs no restrictions.
