At least they mention that this could happen with any device that needs charging.
I don't object to this article in the same way as many. It must have been a hell of a shock to be standing there, and we should all be aware that it can happen, however rarely it actually does.

red arrow magnet makes good valid points in the comments plus the user used an ipad charger, not the one supplied with device as advised

Oh that's scary! I don't remember ever being supplied with a USB plug , just the screw in USB thing. I use these in my htc and iPad plugs. I used to plug them into USB port on my tv till I read about exploding batteries and I never leave them unattended ever. What plug should I be using?

Interesting, one comment thinks its an insurance scam as the same thing happened in America??????
I never charge 2 things in the same double socket either in case of power surges.

The headline should read "Bar man stupidly connects low voltage e-cigarette in to high voltage iphone charger then plugs it in to the wall (obviously on a usb extension/adaptor) right underneath slowly dripping bottles of alcohol that hang on the wall DIRECTLY above." ...fool

If I'm right, an ipad charger's output is 4 times that which is safe for use with an e-cig. Terrible for the lady, and I haven't read the article, but it's worth noting for anyone that you need to use the right equipment!

good points you must check your charger output that is why i am surprised they dont make mobile phone type chargers a 3 pinplug with cable with a ego thread on the end i know i have 1as i had a lg charger and the plug started to get loose so i cut it off and i dissasembled a ego charger and soldered it on my lg charger and screwed it back up
disclaimer
i dont recommend this for the average person though but iknow all the safety aspects as i am an electronics engineer

I don't know why all chargers aren't required to have a current limitation circuit or at least a bloody fuse!

I'm going to buy one of those bags Karma. I can't take the big hub on holiday so what should I use? I thought the wee USB dongle charger (input5v output 4.2v) that I bought for charging egos was a fixed power and I could plug into any USB port or plug???
