Hi all!
Total newbie here (my first post). I was led here via the MSE site whilst doing some initial research into ecigs. Gotta say, you guys seem like a rather nice bunch and you have developed a very informative website... so I hope you don't mind if I dive straight in and start picking your brains!
I've sifted through the helpful advice which has led me to many conclusions but I've still not identified exactly the right product to suit my needs (fussy bugger). I nearly opted for the 510 Riva mod but I spotted some flaws. Namely the reports of the LR atty damaging the battery and the poor placement of the button which would undoubtedly become activated in my jeans pocket.
So perhaps it'd be best to list some requirements and see if you nice chaps can pair me off with the best products or suggest a shopping list of parts and maybe, where to find them (I don't ask much!). So here it goes...
-Big throat hit and flavour (20 a day Golden Virginia smoker). -I'll be taking it out all day to work/bars etc. So it needs to be as inconspicuous as possible but I'm willing to compromise a little for performance, so no more than approx 12cm in length, 1.6cm radius. I Liked the 'classic' look of the riva with the cone attachment. I don't want anything that looks remotely like a sex toy. -Longest lasting battery possible for it's size. -Cheap to run with widely interchangeable/upgradeable components such as Low resistance atomizers 1.6 - 2 ohm etc. Not tank atomizer (need that hit). -Switch that'll be safe in my jeans pocket. -Fast charging USB charger. -Happy to pay around £50-£60, maybe more if it's worth it.
So here's to avoiding the COPD that my father has just been diagnosed with.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated..
Thanks, Red

Hi Red and welcome to the AAE-C. I am using the Joyetech eGo, which is pretty much the same thing as the Riva. I have heard about the problems with the Riva and LR cartomizers, but I have not heard of those problems occurring with the eGo. In fact, I am using the Joye 510 LR dual coil cartomizers, with both the eGo 650 mA and 900 mA batteries, with no problems whatsoever. As for the button, I believe it is the same on the eGo as it is on the Riva, but you can get a button protector, that's fits over the button, to prevent it from being set off accidentally. I hope you find this helpful and good luck.

Wow! Thanks guys.
Great welcome and already some great advice. I had no idea button guards existed nor that there were so many similar designs to the riva but without the pitfalls.
Perpetua, I thought a 36mg juice might suit best as my roll ups tend to be rather on the large side and often unfiltered. I think the Juice that most resembles what it's replacing seems to be the way to go although I'm quite looking forward to experimenting with flavours for an extra kick much like I already have with my Sheesha pipe.
Off to check out some of the recommendations.. Thanks again

Hello & welcome from me as well Red I still think the Riva is a very good starter kit, but if you want to use very low resistance atomisers/cartomisers, you are right - it may be better to go for an ego. Or if size doesn't matter - a good big battery mod like the Megladon - www.mojurepublic.com/products/Megalodon-%28The-Don%29--**NEW-VERSION**.html though got to admit, my preference is a gg but they are more expensive.

I'll go along with the Megalodon suggestion too, judging by your requirements this mod can be used in mini don mode with smaller batteries and will be ideal for the jeans pocket. It's a bit thicker than you specified though but it needs to be to take decent batteries. A quick click on the moju republic site will show you what I mean. Otherwise as jason says, the ego with the on/off switch will meet your needs. welcome by the way.

The Ego with the switch seems just the ticket. A very practical compromise between size, style and performance. I'm going to try and track a kit down, but before I do can anyone advise on:
What's the best battery in the standard 510 Ego size? What are the best carts and attys for the product. Also standard dimensions (or close to)? And finally, any recommendations on where I might find this package + all the peripherals?
Yours gratefully, Red.

I have the Ego-T 1000mAh and use it with SR Kanger's at the moment - Perpetua, in my opinion, has hit the nail on the head with her info, as that is almost exactly (Ego instead of Riva) my setup, and I'm loving it. I'm now tempted by LR Kanger's if they're really that good... That said, I'm also on the list for a Lavatube, and I'm planning to get a Lil Mama/Big Papa tank to go with that. My word, I'm advancing fast! Hahahah
