I am finding it a lot better packing it quite tight, I tried taking imeothanasis advice and making my micro-coil without any flaming or dry burning of the Knathal and think this helps to get a nice clean flavour.

The 5mm tape I have been using was easier to use but has not given consistent results. I've had a lot of gurgling and increased seepage. I also had to boil it before use.

I'm back to using cotton wool but am now getting consistent wicks. I had been twisting the cotton wool but, as a result of reading a post on here, I now roll it and just twist one end to get it through the coil.

Such a simple cure and I'm sure it was mentioned when I first started rewicking but there's so much information to absorb when taking the next step up the vaping ladder.

Now I have to find a use for 200 metres of cotton tape

The leaking & gurgling was nothing to do with the cotton tape so I'm back to using it.

It's perfect for a 2mm coil. No guessing how much to use. Just cut, twist end, insert, pull and trim.

The wick and coil got too gunked after 16 ml of juice which is extremely good for my juice, I normally re-wick every 4 ml.

After re-wicking the coil was heated and quenches in running cold water to de-gunk, I tried not to let it get red hot, but it did for a very sort moment.  I don't think the flavour is as clean as the first time, but this is probably physicoligical and the differience is tiny.  So you can do micro-coils with out flaming or or heating your Kanthal and the experiment I did it vaped well and stayed much cleaner than usual.  This is just one test and proves nothing YMMV.

I'm surprised this no flame build hasn't been mentioned before. It seems the oxidisation flaming causes and the as yet unproven harmful effect it may have seem to be common knowledge in certain quarters.

I've had similar results with less build up of gunk on a no flame coil. I paid particular attention to get a close, neat coil in the first place. The action of making a coil work hardens the kanthal so getting the coils as close a possible in the first place is important.
I fired the coil a number of times on a mod until hot, but nowhere near glowing, and pinched to get it really tight.

For no particular reason I'm not a fan of quenching, and although I occasionally dry burn I prefer to fit a new coil. I can't comment on the health benefits and I'm not sure if the flavour is any better, but a no flame build seems to last longer, I'll be continuing with this method if it means less frequent changes.

Also everything seems to stay cleaner with rayon, but I'm still not sure I like the flavour when compared with rico or organic cotton.

I was never sure how much annealing was going on when I flamed a piece of kanthal, it's so thin that the cooling could hardly called slow.
I suspect the main attribute was that it burnt off any impurities on the surface and made it sterile.

Can anyone please summarize for me, I've been using cotton wall balls and I'm sick of it, my wife went to Hobbycraft and the only Rico summer fashion they had was cream and they wanted £10 so she rightly said no.
I'm building 2mm (& 3mm) coils for my Rose, Squape, SquapeR and Magma so what is the best (and easiest) material to use?

it is japenese cotton compressed into squares (think make up removal pads) you cut a small strip the size of your coil and thread it through. It is more absorbent that regular cotton wool, organic and gets good reviews let me see if i can find a link
