Hi, The oreico dripper arrived today and so did the .32 kanthal. I don't have a blowtorch yet so they are a bit long and squint but the dual coil setup came out at .9 Ohms with ten wraps. There was a slight hiccup when I managed to cut the leg of the second coil while supposedly trimming. **embarassed look** The red astair also arrived so I have given it a bit of a whirl - I likes it. Now waiting on the sony high drain batteries and the torch so I can make better coils. And God bless Super-Shiny 's coil guides for giving me the confidence to even try this.

I haven't torched any of my coils for a long time, I find dry firing them and just a little pressure with the tweezers does the job perfectly. I've ruined many coils being careless trimming them, absolute nightmare when you've just inserted the last coil into a quad build and you had it just perfect. :/
I remember wrapping my first coil and stayed with it for a while thinking this is just perfect for me, then seeing other coils and wanting more. I love my 3 strand twisted 28 gauge macro coils, gives a ludicrous vape.

Well done satanswombatIt is addictive, I must have made 3 yesterday and settled on a 2.4ohm with silica wick for the evening, this morning. Trouble is, it looked a bit tatty and as i am going out this evening I thought I'd make a bigger cotton build. It's nearly a micro-coil. lol It looked like a micro coil until i just took a picture and zoomed in, There is spacing. It came out at 3.3 ohm which is a bit high but it sure vapes nice and looks pretty. + doddle to get new cotton in. It'll do for now and next time maybe either the same but dual to bring it to about 1.6ohm or just undo a wrap or two. ( I think, still newbie coiler) It is good fun tinkering and making it all work and come together. Ruffie

I am now trying to find out what kanthal to use to try and make aerotank heads. ??? Everything I try in the coil calculator seems to need about 13-30 wraps so I can only assume I have missed something important. Also have a smok aro to play about with as it always leaked and gurgled for me with the stock head.

EDIT: unless you want microcoils, that is!! Check the coil diameter and wire gauge too

hi all Just a newbie question how long does a homemade coil last I knopw you need to change the cotton etc but the actual coil how long A month is about right for a micro coil at >1.0ohm, I vape around 0.2-0.3 so a coil generally lasts me a week or sometimes less. As for your wick I like to change mine every other day, I'd definitely say once a week at least.

Slightly more frustrating day. I tried squishing the coils and dry burning them to stick them together - they just snapped at the legs instantly. Had a look at the smok aro head - I will need to wait till I can make the micro coils to avoid it shorting on the sides or buy some different gauge kanthal. On the plus side recoiled the dripper at .7 ohms as the high drain sony batteries arrived today. According to the chart they should be fine down to 0.4 ohms as well. Do you think I should buy some ekwool for things like the aro and aerotank or would cotton be fine in those too? Another question - the cotton wool I bought was bleached without chlorine but doesn't say organic or anything on it - should I ditch it for the organic stuff?

Caved and bought a little cheapo blowtorchy thing till the real one arrives. Just recoiled one of these ( came out at 1.3 Ohms ) and it has totally stopped the leaking I was getting with the stock head. So that is one rescued from the junk pile. But the dripper is firing one coil more than the other - I think it is because of the leg length. Is there a ohms checker with crocodile clips so I can check the coils before fitting? I also think the vamo may not be that accurate as none of the online coil calculators I have tried give the same readings it does. :/ How much more difficult will the aero-tank be to recoil with dual heads?
