Also I've heard quite a lot of positive and negative things about FastTech, positives seem to mainly be price and choice and the main negative seems to be things getting held up after shipping. Is the shipping thing a major problem to the point where things don't turn up, or is it just a case of having to wait ages for stuff to arrive?

Ive never had anything not turn up from FT that was supposed to. It usually takes about 3 weeks to arrive.

Would it be worth it, when I get one, to run it through a scope and diagnostic software so I can get a better idea of tolerances and whatnot, or is that just going a step too far? You don't need to go this far for an electronic mod. If you really want to know how something like a VTR performs then PBasardo who is a reviewer has already run it through an oscilloscope under various configurations and you can always just look at his results PBasardo he has tested many mods.
An oscilloscope wont tell you much about a mech as its direct current, dependant on battery voltage and coil resistance. It might tell you if there is some voltage drop but the amounts are tiny and nothing to worry about. Working out how many amps your using in relation to the battery limit can be done using ohms law or a simple to use calculator like steamengine.

As long as you dont sub ohm this really is very simple, i dont know why people have to over complicate things and put the fear of god into people with regards these devices... i agree safety is paramount but there is always that element who over think things and put a spin on things that makes them look like drama queens... a few years ago before the Provari came along you pretty much had 2 choices.... cigalike or big battery mod (as they were called then) and folk just got on with it with no issues... Buy a mech, buy a IMR battery, put a coil on top around 1.8 ohm......... simple....
With regards to Fasttech,,, Fasttech have one of the best setups going, a few UK vendors should take a few tips from them and adopt some of their morals and standards towards their customers.... You get decent items for very little money if you do some home work, good returns policy, good refunds policy and free shipping, i aint found a UK vendor that can match all they have to offer, Yes postage can be slow but that aint Fasstechs fault, everything i have ordered that says next day shipping has been shipped next day and i have gotten my little photograph of my parcel ....lol... i even like that little touch, Its the postal service thats slow, Just dont buy batteries as there are issues with customs and your whole order will be held up.

I just got a phone call so have to start this all over again When I started vaping there were only two options - cigalike or mech mod. I chose mech mod for the battery life. I think I spent about £20 each on a couple. So please don't say a newbie shouldn't go down the mech mod route. Ok so it was cartomisers or cartomisers on top but still. (this was 3 years ago) - asides from the provari VV (never mind VW) didn't hit the UK till the October and the lavatube wasn't in UK till at least the November if not later!!! (and that was just VV) joelemite batteries can be debated till you're blue in the face. Various mech mods. I am personally a magneto fan They can be gotten here - www.bargainvapour.com/index.aspx?pageid=1274300&chainID=137599&txtQuickSearch=magnetoTakes about a week or less to come from Ireland . the magneto is telescopic so you can put short and dumpy or big and fat batteries in it Should be a good one to get you started and will last. I have issues with fast tech - like the fact most of the mods I get from there are dead on arrival LOL and they are slow If you are not rebuilding your own tanks/clearos you don't need to worry about an ohms meter for now. You need a good quality safe battery charger though. Again someone else can advise. That's it in a nutshell!!!

Have a go at it, it`s not expensive and will feed your hobby/interest brain cells for many hours. Take what advice you need from this forum if you need it. Fasttech can be slow, but in about 40 orders, nothing has ever gone missing. CHEAP DOES NOT MEAN CRAP. Ask people here before you buy, this is the most helpful, friendly and well informed forum on the net

I was unsure about mech mods too at first due to all the different opinions out there but I watched a video on this forum by Robert Ellis demystifying mods.
Once I had finished the video it pit my mind at ease so I started using one. But to be honest (just my opinion though) I found it didn't give me the hit like my v/w mods do. So I just really use it first thing in the morning when I don't need a big hit.
I personally don't see what all the fuss about them is I think my mvp , vtr and zmax perform 10 times better but again just my opinion.

That was the video that made me think that as long as you follow the advice offered mechs were the way to go.
