Some of you may remember, beginning of April last year, (less than a week after I switched to vaping full time) I posted about our black and white cat losing an eye whilst out playing with the cars. He fully recovered, and has led a normal life since.
Well, My phone rang at 7:40 tonight - just outside the house, he's been hit by a car. This time his face is a right mess, and he lacerated my arms trying to get him into a cat box!(I thought this was a good sign, that he had the strength to do this)
We got him to the emergency vet post haste, where they immediately put him on anti-shock and pain meds, and he's stable. He's definitely broken his jaw, possibly in 2 places, but we'll know more tomorrow once they've xrayed him from top to toe. Could also be legs and or pelvis as well.
Feeling a bit down, but he's the 3rd animal we've saved today.
First was a 250g baby hedgehog - no room at any of the local hedgehog rescues, so tomorrow we're visiting one where they'll check him over and possibly give him (her?) some meds, then he'll stay on our kitchen bench umtill he's fat enough to go out. Hopefully, before the winter, but if not, he'll have to stay inside if he's not fat enough to hibernate.
Second was Pennylope - one of our ex-batt hens. We removed about 220ml of yellow fluid from her abdomen with a syringe. Probably only about a third of what's in there, but at least she should be alive tomorrow to remove some more.
And third up - he who plays with cars. We got him to the vet before he passed out (vet said lucky we did)
So, now for a large whisky and a vape of red hots.

Sorry to hear about Neo fred - as the owner of a total muppet of a cat, I dread the thought of getting that sort of phone call. It sounds like you're building quite an ark for yourself, if it starts to rain I'm coming round to you Hope pennylope pulls through, and Sonic (you have to name the hedgehog Sonic, surely - dying it blue is optional) develops well!

I wish I had room to build an ark ionian - can't move round here for animals! At least this time Neo is insured - last time, he lost an eye, which we dropped £1200 on! Nowt but hassle and expense from the menagerie, but I wouldn't be without any of them. (Had one of the chooks in the kitchen most of last week with a prolapsed vent - in fact, we've had a crate on the kitchen worktop since November, with some resident or other!) Thanks, igual - don't think we'll get him home till at least Monday whatever, but we'll find out how bad he is once he's past the shock risk and can be sedated/anesthetised. He's got over one RTA, and we adopted Pudding who had a 'jigsaw' pelvis after an RTA, so it looks like the crate on the kitchen worktop hospital ward could be there for some time to come.

My puddy is a pure housecat. I never even considered the house/roaming cat option till I tried to rescue one a few months ago, and went round to see a lovely black and white puss who was scared of vehicles. An inspector came to visit (be a great film title that) and said my house is too close to a main road, so no pooby. But would I consider a housecat? "A what?" And that's where Izzy came in. Born and raised in 4 walls, she's quite happy to be here all day (especially now derp) and there's benefits from having a housecat, not least they don't pick up fleas from everywhere.

Ah, but you don't get squidgy remains to step on in the middle of the night! Would love to turn all 3 of them into house cats, but too late now, and we'd never have managed with Pudding - the one who arrived with a broken pelvis - he knew what the cat flap was, and was tryingto get out of it on his 5 mins exercise from his crate, even though his back half was non-functional. I think he's a bit more streetwise than Neo, having been hit before (don't even know where he came from - was abandoned at the vets). Willow, little black girl, would stay in forever, but she doesn't go much further than the garden, and if its raining, comes in to use the litter tray
The fella who found him last night, rang this morning to find out how he is! What a gent!

We'll have to start calling you Frank, fred, after Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals! Really hope that Neo does well & recovers fully, poor puss. Also that the rest of your menagerie recover too. Lovely that the guy cared enough to both report Neo's accident & has since phoned to check on him.
