Not sure mineral oil will help, you need abrasion to remove the coating from the threads Wire wool will do the job nicely So far we've established peps toolkit comprises a bread knife, a pair of tweezers, a pair of scissors and some mineral oil

Your not looking to get the black bit off, you need to clean all those shiny threads. While your in the kitchen cupboard have a look for a Brillo pad.

oh well I can't do anything with it now, I've just emptied out under sink and now so exhausted I need to lie down! Only thing I found was a bike repair kit with a small fine square of sandpaper, so I rolled it up and gently scraped the grooves, it still wont work, I'm quitting for now, I don't feel in the mood... I'm quite frankly getting sick to the back teeth with taking it apart over and over again and getting nowhere. God knows what the finish will be like if I ever do get it going? If I'm not gouging the once immaculate finish with wire, I'm scratching the screws, I'm scraping the body with various implements and my hands and fingers are aching like mad! I'll see about getting out tomorrow and buying some old fashioned wire wool pads and give it a try with that, but theres no point me ruining yet another day working myself into a hissy fit Thanks for advice and support so far --- for now I'd like to pretend my wonky donkey was mashed in a car press......

What? NEVER! Pep, I feel your pain. Such an expensive and long-awaited toy with no joy... My advice is to try my method and, better yet, get Multimeter Boy to do it for you in the interest of domestic harmony

Maybe it's time for miniecig to step in Pepperty and offer an exchange unit they've tested before despatch. You shouldn't have to faff on like this with a new mod. Fine if your that way inclined but your not and I don't mean to be rude saying that but I'd say enough is enough.

Pepperty if you have any Noalox that may clean the threads, if you are feeling adventurous and you have some french chalk of talc you could try cleaning the threads with that on some rayon or cw held in tweezers (I'm not mad they used to use it to polish brass and silver).

Yes I think you have gone beyond what anyone would expect having to do to try and get it working, let miniecig know that your sending it back for them to get working before you end up scratching the anodising on it.

hmm I do have noalex, picked a tube up last week, the difficult bit is reaching the threads as they are up inside so it's an awkward angle. I'll try in a couple of hours after giving my hands a rest. I've got carpel tunnel so it's hard work with pins and needles in fingers thanks for the suggestion VapingBad and I've a few dental instruments on till box that might Jekyll me get a decent view and angle on it

Put the noalox on the outer of the 510 insert, screw it in, screw it then in-out in-out.... shake it all about its mildly abrasive and conductive if it works enjoy a nice evening vaping and give it a clean with IPA later in the week.

Pepperty, You have autosol. Read this earlier in thread as you used to clean up the brass bar. Put a drop on the 510 connector base threads, or body threads, and screw in and out many times. This should clean up the threads with ease. Apply pressure to the connector in various directions as you turn it back and forwards. Clean off all the black muck which is produced and you are good to go. Do not forget to remove 510 pin and plastic insulator and clean all that up so the pin slides freely. ( She has drunk all the Autosol after running out of Vodka - Editor) EDIT - Or as VapingBad said above.
