Never used anything like this before and never coiled before so my question is should I use the wick and wire that it came set up with to start or should I take it out and try micro coil and cotton? Looks like 6 wraps with 3 silica wicks through it. Ohms reading 2.4. just want to try it out. I'm guessing it all needs boil washing first?

If it was me i would whip up a micro coil and cotton wick. This might help.

TBH I would bin the coil supplied and bang a microcoil with cotton wool in. I use 6 wraps of .32 Kanthal around a 2.5mm screwdriver shank, comes out at around 1.2ohm, perfect for me! I would give it a good soapy wash and then a thorough rinse in hot water to get rid of the machine oil used in manufacture.

This is the wire I have. Not sure what the sample is? I have the mandrel too. How many wraps? I've been using 1.8 recently. oops upside down.

If the sample wire is slightly thicker i would use that and follow my video so about 6-7 wraps. With the 0.25 kanthal i would do 8-9 wraps to get up around 1.2-1.3 ohms. Do you have something that will read the ohms for you? The above is assuming your wrapping around something that is 2mm wide. Thinner the ohms will be less, thicker and the ohms will be more.

I have the mandrel tool that super shiney links to in his guide. Think it goes from 2mm up to 6mm. Once coiled I can stick it on my itaste battery to get the reading. His coils came out at 1.8. Sample wire is only .17 so .25 I'll use and I'll be back shortly to let you know how bad I really am

Hi rednutt that mandril is sized from 1.5 to 5mm. The second smallest is 2mm, if you use 9 wraps of 0.25 kanthal round the 2mm mandril you should get 1.8 to 1.9 ohms. Note the 9wraps will become 8.5 wraps when you unwrap half a turn to set the legs opposite for the Russian deck

Ok did 8 wraps round the second part(2mm) of the mandrel and fixed in place using your video. It's coming in at 2.2 ohms. Made sure it was raised up a bit off the deck. I'd 2.2 too high?

Maybe a bit high but maybe go with it and see how you go or just unwrap one wrap and go again.

Trying to get my head around all this haha. Next step after this bits mastered is my 18350 battery going in my new stingray x. Don't want to break my new shineys

Ahh Roscopecotrain so less wraps = lower ohms. I read all the ohms law stuff but it doesn't want to stick in my brain. Once I get this first build under my belt I'm sure it'll start making sense
