In the few short months (actually 4 and some were longer than others ) since taking up Vaping, and chucking the coffin nails) I've noticed the remarkable acceleration it has taken. On eBay there are now thousands of vendors not just selling kit and juices but all manner of accessories from the sublime to the ridiculous. More and more friends and acquaintances are shifting over to E-cigs and last week in Glasgow I was passing an office block in the city centre and noticed that of the 4 people standing outside only one was smoking a fag and the others were vaping. But I'm worried now that the government will start to notice a large fall in tobacco tax revenue and take steps to rectify this. Could they tax e-cigarettes and e-liquids though they contain no Tobacco. What do you think?

sydsut... the Gov't will have already noticed the fall in tax, but more important (IMO) is that BigT and BigP will be very worried about their fall in profits. They are the ones to be worried about with their lobbying of MPs and the media tactics to frighten people off. Keep the faith.

I know its spreading. I know 4 that have started after having had a shot of mine and with me pounding the benefits LOL I too have only been at it for a couple of months and am amazed at how often I now spot people vaping whereas before I might not have noticed. I wondered if we should be like drivers of old Volkswagen vans who always acknowledge one another I think the government will probably try and given the way people are modding their own rigs and PV/VG and flavourings are commercially available, I wonder if they will go after the nicotine. Given the way some of our members seem to have freezers full of it, they could be thinking the same way

I agree sydsut - vaping really does seem to have taken off in a big way over the last few months. So many folks know about e-cigs now - such a difference from when I first started vaping just over 6 years ago. As for what the government will do about the shortfall, it will be interesting. They highly taxed cigarettes due to the health issues, so I really can't see how they could do the same with e-cigs.

Have been vaping "full time" for just over 2 years and the growth is amazing. Have not seen growth like I have with vaping in anything else. Every week there is a new company with a new hi-end "must have" dripper and mech mod. There are now soo many "gourmet" eliquid vendors that the choice is totally overwhelming to a newbie. When I first started, a decent setup was over £100 in the UK. Now for £25/30 you can get something with a minimal voltage drop and all the bells and whistles... Seems like everyone and their mums are making ejuice now

I don't see how the government can tax e cigs, what part they going to tax, the batteries, wicks, coils, etc.
As for the juice, much the same as above what part they going to tax? yes the nicotine is addictive but not dangerous so how can justify the tax on that.
As it gets more popular I think they will try to regulate it but we've all been eating horse meat for as long as I have been smoking, so I wish them good luck on that!
Then there's the economy, if it's taking a piece of the big boys tobacco pie then why wipe out British companies?
edit; BTW I have been vaping for 1day, I know what I'm talking about.....ha ha.

What money grabbing politician could resist taxing nicotine liquid as much as they can under the pretence of health...yeah right. Last I heard rules are a changing 2016 on nic base. I've made sure I have loadsa72mg in the freezer and enough hardware to last a life time. A bit of wire, cotton wool, battery and Bobs your uncle! I feel sorry for the people to come who haven't found vaping yet and by the time they do it will be so controlled and over priced they won't want to try. Its as if the government want people to stay on fags.

Its as if the government want people to stay on fags. The Government doesn't want people to stop smoking for several reasons. Direct tax on tobacco products. Tax paid by tobacco employees. Tax paid by workers from related industry (printers, packers etc). The number of people who die early due to tobacco products saves millions in state pensions and benefits. Tobacco is a cash cow for the Government why stop it. Tax and control of Nicotine liquid will come in to force within 3 years due to the big tobacco and chemical companies enforcing it.

Perhaps, but think of it this way. If e juice is heavily taxed due to nicotine content, then spays, inhalators, patches, gums MUST be as well. And on top of this DRT such as methadone will fall under the same flag. So the Pharmafcuks will end up losing cash anyway. And if base nicotine is taxed to death, then that would lead to other addictive chemicals such as glues being taxed as well. The government has one hell of a backlash coming, but they wont care as long as their own pockets are filled. They will find some flawed argument and heap of lies to support their greedy powerplays.
Proposal - Chrissie for PM!!! AAEC party in charge of the UK.

I have said it before, we have a massive lobby against taxing liquid etc. Two million plus is a government changing amount of people. It would be political suicide for any Government , whatever party, to hit ecigs and liquid hard IMO

That's why a government will do it at the very start of a term in office, to maximise their own profits before losing all those votes.

It would be political suicide for any Government , whatever party, to hit ecigs and liquid hard IMO There are more smokers in the UK, cigs go up every year yet they have never voted a Government out. The same goes for drivers and fuel, drinkers and booze. Pensioners could change the government on their own to force better state pensions but they never will. As much as I'd like to think one day people will vote out a poor government they won't, and sadly every political party is much the same. The government doesn't run this country big business does, they have the funding to push through anything. As long as Cons/Labour say we are funding the NHS, cutting crime, improving education blah blah people are happy to vote for them. Even when everyone knows they are talking bollocks. Vapers count for nothing in the big scheme of things, one day we will also be a cash cow to the big tobacco and chemical companies.

The difference here is that 2 million plus vapers are going to be introduced to new taxes which don't only affect their wallets, but their health as well. Introducing this tax could have the same effect UK wide that the Maggie Twatcher had on the tories in Scotland when she used Scotland as a testbed for her poll tax. Even now, decades later, a Scottish tory is as rare as a dog that speaks fluent Esperanto.
