thriller and other good books

could someone please recommend a good and exciting thriller  - nothing horror though
or another really good book - I also like historical fiction

Normally read Stephen King, Graham Masterton etc but read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn for a bit of a change of pace and it wasn't too shabby. Dean Koontzs Odd Thomas series is also worth a shot for something a bit different.

Stephen Leather and Lee Child write some great thrillers and if you like crime stories any of Ian Rankin's Rebus novels.

Watchers was brilliant, especially of you're a dog lover and Twilight Eyes was good but yeah he ended up a bit too prolific for his own good. There's also the late James Herbert. He had some brilliant ones out.

If you enjoy historical drama and don't mind a spot of blood & guts, then Bernard Cornwell's novels are cracking the couple I've read Clivia.

Gone Girl is a great read. I rarely find a female writer I enjoy. It led me to try others recommended to me. A mother and daughter combo wrote the "monkeywrench" series of 4 under the name of PJ Tracy. I was sorry to finish them.
