Hi Just wanted to say hello - I've found the forums really useful. I have just ordered my first Ego Riva from alba vapours. I have to say their customer service has been great! Just looking forward to getting started with it. May be asking lots of questions when it arrives...!!

Hello Everyone,
Another newbie here looking for some advice. Wonderful, informative site! I've been reading through the very helpful threads for days and decided the Ego/Riva Starter Kit would probably be the best for me.
I know the Riva 510 or similar would be better performance, but psychologically, I find myself continuously drawn to the familiar, look-a-like analogue e-cig type, but understand the battery life aren't very good on them. Dilemma... perhaps, I would be better off buying the two!
Also as I'm a long term rollie smoker, approx 20 a day would e-juice Golden Viriginia 12-18mg be sufficient? Also, the 3 choices are PG, VG/PG 60/40 and VG.
Is VG an alternative to PG if one is allergic to it, or is it for the vapour? Should I get both PG and VG and mix them 50/50 as I read somewhere?
Sorry for all the questions. :-)

As an ex-rolly smoker, I'd say you might want a bit higher strength juice to start with. I'm currently on 18 or 24mg juices. The Riva will not dissapoint you, and the 'need' for something that looks like a ciggie soon fades. Just don't expect to be able to balance it on your bottom lip I would advise you grab a pack of Boge or Kanger cartomisers, as the atomiser/cartridge combination is a bit pants. A drip tip is also a nice comfort, rather than luzzing on a had plastic or metal cylinder ( particularly true for rolly smokers). PG is propylene glycol - gives less vapour, but more throat hit. VG is vegetable glycerine, more vapour but tends to mute flavour a bit. Personally I go for 100% PG or 40/60 PG/VG. Both are humectant (they dry you out) so be ready to drink a bit more fuid, and some folks have a reaction to PG early on - in which case it might be a good idea to try buying them separately and blend to see what suits you and your body. A good route to go is to get smaller bottles (10ml) and do a pick and mix so you can find out what flavours you like. First off most folks understandably want tobacco flavours, but most aren't really like the real thing, and fruit flavours are quite nice. HTH and welcome Dom

Sorry for all the questions. :-) The Riva is a great device, most people are initially attracted to the Cig-a-likes, I was. But if you really want to replace analogues they just don't carry enough charge to be practical as a alternative. They certainly will not last more than a couple of hours at best if you currently smoke 20 analogues a day. However you could go somewhere in the middle and try a SD Keyring from Vape Escape, perhaps as a secondary device and a Riva as your primary. The SDK should last 3 - 4 hours moderat usage at least before it needs charging, it is this charging that tends to be the problem, you fancy a smoke only to find you have to wait 2 hours for your e-cig to charge. If you had a Riva you normally get 2 batteries with it, you could be vaping on one battery whilst the other is on charge and you'll typically get 8 - 12 hours heavy usage out of it. As you smoke rollies I would recommend 24mg (high) strength juice to start, you could always dilute it with a lower nicotine juice if it's too strong. PG - Propylene glycol VG - Vegetable glycerine Most juices are a mix of the 2 this again is what most people start with. Sometimes some people find that they are mildly allergic to PG or VG so switch to the other, but start with a PG/VG mix as the combination works well. Keep asking!, no question is silly, we've all been there and are now here to help you.

Hi dmark and tourmaline wishing you a warm welcome to the group ...keep asking any questions you have to get the best out of your e-cigs we are here and more than willing to help and support tourmaline most people find the riva type e-cig is alot smaller than they imagine once they see it in real life... i would go for one of those and if you still feel you'd like a more ciggy lookie like then you can always get one after. nic strength i would go for the 18-24 at least to start with so that it will keep away any cravings PG is a thinner liquid and carries flavour better with more of a throat hit but can be quite a dry vape VG is thicker sweeter and produces more vapour i personally like a mix of the two i would buy a few 5ml sample bottles of various flavours so you can get an idea of what you like good luck to the both of you

Welcome from me dmark and tourmaline. Excellent advice already, so nothing much I can add to that. Always make sure you check for discount codes, I think the most up to date list is the one in the thread at the top of the suppliers sub forum.

Hi both of you, I'm new to this too!
Touramaline, i'm a long time golen virginia girl myself! I bought 2 small starter kits, one came with 18 tobacco juice, i think it's horrible. the other had 18 menthol juice, now I've never been a fan of methol cigs but so far this is the one I'm liking best. I also got a bottle of 11 Golden Virginia juice, it tastes better than the ordinary tobacco but the 11 is not strong enough for me at the moment!
I think there may be a lot of trial and error in this but even after 1 day I've found this forum to be very helpful!
