I prefer the simplicity of Mech Mods, Saying that I've never really tried anything except the Mvp 1&2 because most of the Regulated gear is Fugly in my Humble opinion!!!

They're certainly in decline in popularity IMO

The only regulated mod I own is a two year old SVD which never gets used.
I love my mechs but have to admit to wanting a regulated box.
Problem is I have not found the box which is pretty enough and within reach...
My next purchase will be regulated, looking for a 50W box at the moment. Possibly a sx zero clone.
Building my own is still something I'd love to do but never manage to start...

I'm glad I have mech mods, I only have 14500 ones, but they make me feel safe owning them. The way I see it is; if the law gets to be an ass... them and my spheroids will outlive me! so I plan to keep them to admire, drip on and be Armageddon safe

Only ever use a mech when going for a night out, discrete and not to bulky 18350 , rest of the time its a regulated.

While Doomsday still threatens I have decided not to get to rely on anything I cannot mend myself. Actually very happy with my little stock of mechs anyway; 2 Katos; a LUXE and a Pisces telescopic; they should last longer than me with a little TLC.
(I do also have a rather ancient Provari which also feels as though it will last for ever).

Oi! I still need my mechs to run anything under 1.0ohm. Do you mind.

I love my mechs, but I've recently been enjoying the battery life of the iStick. However, I prefer the vape from my mechs - it feels smoother. It might be psychosomatic and things might improve with a higher quality mod but until then it's mechs for me most of the time, with regulated for convenience. I only use 18350 and 18500s so they are pretty small and convenient. I must take smaller pulls than everyone else, because I can make an 18500 last all day!

It might be psychosomatic and things might improve with a higher quality mod but until then it's mechs for me most of the time, with regulated for convenience. I think the lack smoothness of the VV/VW devices you've used is down to the prevalence of Pulse Width Modulation (where the voltage is averaged using pulses (on off on off) ). This includes the popular iStick but does not include Provari, DNA, Nivel (SvoëMesto) and, in all probability, the rest of the medium / high-end devices, which use Root Mean Squared modulation. Another aspect of PWD is that the higher the frequency the smoother it will be... There's a great article on PWM / RMS here which will do a far better job at explaining it than I can: vivavaping.com/ARTICLES/VOLTAGE.html Tagging robby who, I think, is pretty knowledgeable on such things whereas I am largely recycling near-raw information.

Happy with both. Regulated for <1 Ohm, mech for anything above.

Thanks tomj777. I have a DNA as well as the iStick, and find I still prefer the mech which is why I think (for me at least) it's largely all in my mind! At the end of the day I'm quite happy with the iStick vape, so it's not important enough to me that I'd refuse to use it.
