Crikey. My vaporshark is in bits, just after new year it ded, first the OLED was displaying wiggly lines and then the mod stopped working completely. On being dismantled it didn't have any loose wires or signs of burning, but what it did show is that there are two boards piggy backed on a very flimsy connection. It's not an evolv dna40, but one of their own design. Glad I have my homebuilt evolv dna40 box (which was a project and intended for backup), it's been performing like a champ Firstly its not two boards on a flimsy connection. It is a screen connected to the board. VS only use Evolve boards which suggests the box you stripped down was not a VS. Your home built DNA40 has the same connection from board to screen. If you are going to comment threads like this at least make sure it is accurate.

I think it may be best to post pics davetherayon, you know how peeps can either latch onto info like carp on a bait, or be doubting Thomas.

I don't need photo's to know that what davetherayon has said is absolute rubbish. The same member posted a thread "What to do with a DNA40 board" which I think says it all.

Thank you VapingBad. I take everyone at their word - until proved otherwise. That ain't an evolve DNA40 - nuff said!! Probably saved me a bad purchase there m8 Even if it's just an extension board for the buttons it isn't right.

It's a modded evolv DNA40 then. I still don't trust as there's no need for it.

I use VS almost exclusively and to be fair I have never had an issue with my two rDNA30's or my rDNA40. I find them to be one of the best MODS (and I have tried a few) for battery life and the form factor is ideal.

It's a modded evolv DNA40 then. I still don't trust as there's no need for it. No they mount a DNA40 to a board they make (which probably has the charger on it, not sure) to make it easier to install in the casing. So they have the soldering monkeys soldering the boards together and to the switch & 510, hopefully test it at this stage and then pass it to the hot glue monkeys to fit it into the casing. It would take far more skilled monkeys to solder it in with short enough wiring to fit in the case. So if the DNA40 was still OK after the reverse battery damage I would suspect the other PCB is the most likely cause, but could be a short caused by the packaging being so tight.

The DNA40 has reverse polarity protection according to Evolve's specification.

There is nothing like DIY, smaller, better and far to labour intensive to be affordable.

I feel the need to explain myself, just so peeps don't feel I'm just being an a**hole.
The only reports of overheating when charging have been with the VS's. The only peeps who have seen fit to add their own boards, thereby 'modifying' the evolv DNA40 boards are VS.
The DNA40s had no bad reports without these added boards. Especially heat issues.
The added boards are not necessary as the DNA40 is fine without them.
AAE-C is about safety first!!
