Hi , can someone please help me , started making my own coils for protank 2 and mini protank 2's at 1.8ohm -2.0 ohm ,want to order some kanthal wire after getting advice on AAEC told to try 0.28 or 0.3 size but looking on various site's there are 3 different types of 28 size I think! doh ! : Kanthal A1 Type Heat Resistance Wire - 0.34mm (340 Micron or 28 AWG) ,Kanthal A1 Type Heat Resistance Wire - 0.32mm (320 Micron or 28 AWG) , Kanthal A1 Type Heat Resistance Wire - 0.3mm (300 Micron or 28 AWG , Kanthal A1 Type Heat Resistance Wire - 0.28mm (280 Micron or 29 AWG) I know there will be a logical simple explanation... anyone ? thx (from the vape mesh co)

Ok, contrary to popular forums, a lot of wire suppliers still sell wire in AWG (American Wire Gauge). I suspect that people were referring to the actual diameter of the wire - 0.28mm not the gauge. You will get numerous types of 28AWG because that gauge covers numerous slightly different diameter wire. For example 0.3mm wire is 28AWG and 0.28mm is 29 AWG. However 0.31mm wire is probably also listed as 28AWG. With AWG, the bigger the number the thinner the diameter. Here's a handy guide: Kanthal Guide

It was a while ago that i last coiled a kanger head but i'm sure that i used to use 30 AWG, others that do it regularly now will probably be able to give more accurate advice and even their coil build specs. chykensa

I think you would be better with .25 mm for pro tanks etc, 7 or 8 turns on a 2mm core will give you the resistance your looking

BTW, the link below will show you the number of different thickness wires that come under one AWG number. www.wireandstuff.co.uk/products/Atomizer-Wire.html

Or 6 wraps around 2.5mm as my eyesight is failing with age and the extra .5mm helps when feeding my rayon or cotton through!

chykensa I use a needle threader for wicking on eBay for a couple of quid for ten. Just push it through the coil trap the cotton wool and gently pull back, couple of seconds and coil wicked.

I must admit that simply licking the end to moisten it and then feeding it through works for me, but this tip will be useful for those with more dodgy eyesight than me!
