I've used FF for years with no problems, but in the last few months it has proved to be very unstable (hanging with 'not responding'). I'm on Vista with my laptop, and W7 on my desktop (no problems on that).
Does this mean that Vista is gradually being resigned to the scrapheap?
Have switched to Chrome, and although it takes a bit of getting used to, it's great not to have it go off in a world of its own for 5 minutes.

Could just be an out of date 'plug in' that's causing the problem Raffles

Firefox has been bloated for a while, never used to be. Changed to chrome about 4 years ago and never looked back.

Best thing to do is dump Vista, biggest lump of lard that Microsoft have ever produced (and they've certainly produced some)

Chrome! and get ghostery so you're not spied on! I had problems with firefox on my mac a wee while ago because of above reasons. I went back to Chrome. Problem sorted (just about bar my internet filter. Seem to spend a lot of time on cc cleaner cleaning stuff )

The only two half decent OS systems Microsoft have brought out are Win XP and Win 7, note I said half decent. The Linux derivatives wipe the floor with both of them IMO.

Much as I would like to use Chrome, it just doesn't perform as well as Firefox on my (ancient) machine. That may all change at the weekend as I have been given the green light to buy a new laptop so will be using both and evaluating them on a Win8.1 machine.

I've heard lots of comments regarding Win8, none of it encouraging.

Use 7 indoors and at work and it's pretty good. 8/8.1 i've only used sparingly and it's not very user friendly IMO Hence the rushed launch of 10. Firefox works ok for me on 7 but Internet Explorer is just a total waste of time with constant "page could not be displayed" messages.

I use XP, 7 & 8.1 I still prefer XP, but once you get used to it 8.1 is an improvement over 7, stick with it, remember the hoohah when Win95 replaced 3.1?
Having said that I still have an old 3.1 machine and love it

I have both installed on a Win7 machine, but favour FF still. Anything Androidy is Chrome though.

Maybe Firefox has become bloated but I blame the problems on Google obstructing Firefox users. Google makes big money from adverts on web pages. If you use Firefox with an adblocker, Google makes life difficult for the adblocker so that it has to use vast amounts of ram and CPU to stop the ads. Google is trying to take over the net. I have resisted Chrome so far but I will probably cave in as otherwise I'll have to buy a more powerful computer.
